I am originally from Los Angeles, CA so I?ve been to several authentic Mexican restaurants. I?ve been to many ?Mexican? restaurants in Ohio and the Midwest in general since I moved here a decade ago and I am always disappointed because they havethe audacity to say they serve Mexican food when in reality they don?t. However, each time someone tells me about a Mexicanrestaurant to try I go in hopes that this time it will be different. Let me tell you, tonight it was totally different. TheBattleground is by far one of the BEST actually authentic Mexican restaurants I?ve ever been to out of the 29 states I?vevisited. They have two cute outdoor seating areas, they have a bar area indoor, and an area for general seating area. The decoris intimate and the staff is so helpful. I asked tons of questions and they were so patient with me. Rush hour started around6pm and it became a little hard to hear my partner but we just sat a little closer to each other, which wasn?t an issue foreither of us. He ordered the Jicama Salad and I ordered the Chile Sorpresa. Both were deliciously cooked and clean presentation. We ordered the Tamal Chocolate, which was ammmmmmmmmmazing. We are so excited to return for taco nights and to see the livemusic they have on Saturdays. This place is a gem! We sat close to the kitchen so we got to take a look at everything that cameout and it was so hard to not keep ordering more items. I unfortunately didn?t wear my stretchy pants. The pictures here don?tdo it justice. Oh and I almost forgot to tell you about the driiinnks I got the Jam Cider (lots of berries) and bae got theBuena Noche (pomegranate, mezcal, and I forgot what else). They were both so delicious! We are definitely ubering next time sowe can have more than one.
We went there because my man found an ipa beer he really likes there. it also has a high alcohol content. I had a beautiful and delicious mimose. we went in a really quiet time around midday on a Saturday. it rained last night, so the terrace could still drip, but it is a really cute terrace behind the building. we ate inside. the building has very little signage, so they really need to look for the building. we were with another couple. we took time and it felt like we were on vacation. so relaxing the waiter was great and the owner came by to chat. really friendly place. the chips were homemade and fresh. we also ordered guacamole. when they come, they will not receive salsa and chips automatically. we all ordered two tacos that were a lot. I had the fish and the garnel. the sleepy swarm was very sharp but good. very fresh and plentiful. I would like to go back to try the brunch menu.
So delicious and the service was great! The owner was so lovely. She took time to come to our table and explain the menu and the ingredients.
My roommate and I went for a week day dinner and it was amazing!! No actually... this might be my new favorite taco! Started out with chips and salsa and margaritas, which were all amazing. The hibiscus margarita was perfectly portioned and strong! The waitress said the tacos were decently sized so we each got one taco, this was the right option, anything more would have been too much. Got a ton of steak in my taco and I really appreciated how there were two tortillas for the taco so nothing fell out. The steak and green sauce was the best flavor. Also got mexican rice and cojita black beans which were also amazing!! Can't wait to come back!
