Bidrage med feedbackBeen to many Kansas City BBQ spots over the years and had heard good things about SLAP's. Wasn't disappointed. Great BBQ. I got the three ribs and burnt ends combo with beans and fries (regular fries Outside of meat temperature not being hot (although, I feel this way about all BBQ places food was great. My only complaint was fries were not ready and was never brought out to me (by the time I reminded them I was almost finished with my meal (fries were nice and hot though : I visit Kansas City a few times a year and will make SLAP's part of the rotation.
We visited Slap’s BBQ today for a late lunch early dinner. No crowd at this time and also nothing was sold out. I had watched the owner Joe Pearce on BBQ Pitmasters and later on BBQ Brawl and wanted to visit his restaurant when in KC. We got the 3 rib plate with pulled pork and cole slaw and Mac n cheese and the 1/2 pound burnt end plate with cole slaw and potatoes. I also tried both the sweet and the spicy sauces. The pulled pork was good as were the ribs, but very mild smoke. The ribs seemed a bit over done as the were fall off the bone and somewhat mushy, but not bad be any means. The burnt ends were tender and moist, but again very mild smoke. The sides were all good with the potatoes exceptional! The spicy sauce is my favorite with the sweet having too much molasses for my taste. I with the had a more vinagary sauce option for the pulled pork! All in all it is good BBQ and with drinks was right $40. I am not picky so for most, this is a very good example of Kansas style BBQ!
I am not a barbeque snob, but I am a KCBS certified judge and have eaten a lot of barbeque. I think Slap’s may be the best restaurant barbeque I have ever eaten. I had the ribs and a chicken quarter. Every bite was superb. In fact, between my grandson and my daughter, I didn’t get to eat much of my ribs because they devoured most of them first! My son-in-law loved the brisket and burnt ends. Across the four of us we had a variety of sides. I really enjoyed the cheesy corn and the baked beans. When I mixed in a few jalapeños with the cheesy corn, it was even better! Next time, I’m ordering more meat. I would have loved to take some home, but the line was about 3x longer when we left than when we arrived. Don’t skip Slap’s. It’s worth the wait and as good as anything you’ll find in competition barbeque!
Great BBQ joint in the heart of KC. The BBQ is tremendous by the waiting line out the door and down the sidewalk. Don’t let that deter your choice because it is worth the wait and their process is very efficient, especially if people know what they want when they get up to the counter to order, or you can order online and pick it up to avoid the line. They provide multiple opportunities to view the menu to decide while in line, and instructions of their ordering process, but if you overlook them the staff is very courteous. They offer two different sauces, a sweet and a spicy. There are a variety of sides to choose from and every combo comes with two sides so it is easy to try different things.
We had SLAPS cater our 55th High School Reunion They were exceptional. The food was perfect (three meats pulled pork, brisket, and turkey) sides were yummy too (baked beans, potato casserole and coleslaw). Server was very helpful and professional. stayed until the last person wanted food and then packed up leftovers for an afterparty. You want the real deal for Kansas City BBQ???? get these folks at SLAPS you won't be sorry!!!!
