Mysore masala dosa was crispy,subtle and tasty.It was served with a nice sambaar and 3 diff chutneys.. Initially Chutney didnt serve any chutneys and when asked, Chutney served 3 chutneys ; The thali was fantastic... Served with a crisp sada dosa and rice/daal/sabji/sweet check the picture . Sometimes, south indian thalis in restaurants have the same flavours across every dish. But thankfully not here!! The daal , chukander sabji, tendli sabji and mushroom sabji had different flavors and we loved it. I loved the daal in particular and would go back to have a bigger bowl next time. Rasam was good as well.. About the sweet... I have stopped eating Mysore pak after having few 'extra sweet ' experiences in the recent past but the one they served was just right.. The right texture matched with the right level of sweetness..Loved it!! Next time we want to have a south indian meal in Journal square, we are going back to Chutneys. Whats not Service should be improved and overall cleanliness of the place needs a face lift.
I went to chutneys on a visit to jersey city .. i came to know about their different varieties of buffet that are pretty famous, i went there on tuesday and its a dosa night in there and i felt like having indian food after a long time, pure home made style and their dosa is awesome .. i loved it.
Super buffet for ugadi owner was very friendly and buffet was the best in indian street
Chutneys is a fantastic addition to the array of authentic restaurants on Newark Avenue. This all vegetarian restaurant offers a separate vegan/cosher menu as well as a Jain menu. During my recent visit, I tried the gobi 65 appetizer priced at $8.49. It was a generous portion of fried, well-seasoned cauliflower that reminded me of buffalo wings - delicious! The coconut and tamarind sauces that came with it were rich and flavorful. For the main course, I had a dosa while my companion opted for the bindi masala. He enjoyed the unique twist on the curry, which had a tomato and swirl base with some okra mixed in. I found it to be slightly salty and oily but overall very tasty. Compared to other bindi masalas I've had, this one was lighter on the okra, which was a pleasant surprise. Typically, I get my dosas from Sapthagiri where they offer a variety of fillings like potato, idly, or vada for $8.99. At Chutneys, I tried the pesarattu dosa which was filled with spinach, cumin, and other flavors. While it was delicious, I was disappointed to find that it was not filled like I expected. Despite finishing it quickly, I enjoyed the accompanying spicy sides - sambar, coconut, spicy tomatoes, and what seemed to be a wheat cream. My favorites were the tomato and sambar accompaniments. When it comes to dosas, I usually stick to Sapthagiri or Dosa Hat for their wider variety. However, I look forward to returning to Chutneys to explore more of their menu offerings.
The vegetarian kebab kati roll night at this restaurant is fantastic. They also have a dinner buffet that features a range of North Indian dishes. Throughout the week, they offer various buffet themes such as dosa night and chat night.
