Bidrage med feedbackWow that was great. Came recommended from a friend and we really, really enjoyed it. Food was excellent particularly the flounder tacos. Met the owner, waiter was great, nice vibe. So glad we tried it.... will certainly return.
While their menu is interesting, there is NO service here! We received a warm welcome from the hostess who seated us, promised a waiter would take care of us, and then disappeared. For 20 minutes we watched one other table talk to a waiter who never looked in our direction, never acknowledged our presence, and never did anything to alert the staff that they had a table with no service. As I left, we passed 2 3 wait staff just standing around talking to each other. They all thanked us for (what? since they never served us nor did we buy anything. I made sure the hostess knew about this fiasco on the way out who was surprised and speechless. Apparently, this restaurant can't keep track of its customers wonder how they keep track of orders. Recipe for failure since there are very good restaurants within walking distance (across the street for one and this terrible experience won't make this pathetic business competitive at all. Save your frustration and look around, plenty of other really good choices.
Came for dinner and was quickly seated. Lots of group seating as well as tables and booths in the back. Definitely off season as there was a lot of open space that is likely filled during season. First off, this is a bar. And as a result, it was bar food. Not that it's a bad thing, but I think it's a misnomer to call it a restaurant that serves alcohol. It's the other way and the food is limited to quick, bar foods. It was tasty, but the variety is definitely limited. Started with the rum punch and fried oysters. Would highly recommend both. Then went with the fish tacos which were again good, but was hoping to get some more substantial food. Finished off with a micro slice of key lime pie. Tasted really good! But I doubt I would do it again. Great place for drinks and have food if you want a bite.
I had the Jambalaya $32) and although it had nice portions of the ingredients, it was way too spicy. Yes, I’ve eaten Jambalaya through out the south so I have experience with it. My wife had their special which was a beef burrito. It was $24, and not as good as Taco Bell. Just beef tips, rice, and beans. She was taking peppers out of my Jambalaya trying to spice it up and give it flavor. We won’t be back.
An easy walk from the Tides Inn. Wonderful service and laid back atmosphere. Surprisingly good Caribbean fare for eastern Virginia (definitely order the fried plantains). I had a very poorly made cocktail but that was probably an outlier. Definitely recommend.
