During our visit to Ostria, we encountered a series of discomforts that significantly detracted from our experience. Firstly, the welcome and behavior of the owner were particularly surprising and uncomfortable. A slight cough upon entry led to an inappropriate personal inquiry about my health, immediately setting a tone of unease. The service also left much to be desired; after ordering, we waited over 15 minutes without any update on our dishes, while the owner seemed relaxed and busy sharing a moment with another client, unconcerned about her waiting customers. Furthermore, the payment experience was confusing: despite initial indications to the contrary, we were informed at the end of our meal that credit cards were no longer accepted, adding an additional layer of frustration to our visit. It is important to note that, despite these negative aspects, some of the dishes we eventually received were good. The cuisine, while not extraordinary, was honest and reflects a certain craftsmanship in classic Greek cooking. However, the quality of the food cannot make up for the tense atmosphere and unsatisfactory service we experienced. My review echoes that of other customers who have also shared unfortunate experiences related to the owner's behavior, ranging from strange interactions to inappropriate overreactions. It's regrettable that an establishment capable of offering satisfactory dishes is marred by failing relational and service aspects. In conclusion, despite a few highlights on the plate, the negative interactions with the owner and service issues largely dominated our experience at Ostria. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant unless significant improvements are made in customer welcome and service. Food: 4 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 1
I was hoping for a good long lunch of fish and salad (no carbs) before the ferry back to Poros but had the worst experience in forty years of eating out in Greece. I was treated so differently to the lovely couple next to me who were taken to the kitchen. My late husband spoke good Greek and I feel had we been there together. being widowed is not easy, they obviously have a problem with women alone, so be warned. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
This restaurant is unique in Hydra. One of the couple who owns it is a fisherman who cooks whatever he catches. He also collects mushrooms and herbs from the mountain. The food is extraordinarily good and everything is fresh. The front end is overseen by his partner and she has a big personality and we loved her. Eating here is like eating in their home, you might be invited to see the fish and pick your own. I approach this type of service with the understanding that it is a privilege to eat what they make and it is their privilege to serve the public. We were particularly privileged to eat the freshest fish, the best bread and feta and local olives and mushrooms. I hope you will also come and enjoy the bounty and the big personality of the family. These places are rare. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: €15–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Fresh Fish
Was feeding a cat across the street from her restaurant and lady yelled at me not to feed cats here and told me to clean it up. I was going to eat here but not after this as I wasn’t feeding cats on restaurant property. I reported her to the police station as nobody else has a problem with feeding cats on public streets Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
