Bidrage med feedbackPicked up a family pie for dinner along with a couple of sweet treats all very tasty. Sorry did not have time to try it all. Highly recommend trying this place.
Summer kitchen make the good stuff. That much I can tell you, as a local. Their breads and other goods I've had elsewhere (Salamanca, specialty grocers etc.) are the perfect "treat" items. This was my first time visiting their Ranelagh home-base and it was very fine. Had the black bean empanada with a slice of carrot cake. Both of which were up to the standard these guys set. Especially the cake, probably one of the nicest slices of carrot cake I've ever had. Seriously decadent. Their new courtyard is very nice, even on what was a cold day it was lovely to sit in the sun. Realistically their ordering area needs a bit more space, pretty cramped around lunch time. Perhaps another staff member on during the lunch rush too, since there was a noticeable wait for these two items.Cannot flaw the food though, absolutely top notch.
My wife and I decided to take her new car for a Sunday drive down to the Huon district, and called in for coffee and cake at the Summer Kitchen. To say the place was a charisma free zone is really an understatement, as the two girls who were there barely made eye contact, and I was left feeling that they were doing me a favour by being open for me. The Hazelnut and Quinoa brownies were great, the coffee was ok, although I don't particularly like that licorice taste you get with some coffees, but the unfriendly reception was not up to par, and this isn't the first time. Sorry, but there wont be a third chance.
What a find! Most unprepossessing cafe in the Huon, wooden shopfront wirth working bakery next door, great variety of breads and pastries and the best croissants I have eaten outside of France and all baked on the premises. The dining room is like a secret hide away behind the shop. At this time of the year (july) there is a log fire going and tulips on the tables. This place is truly unique, the staff are efficient and friendly, the pastries to die for and in the summer the court yard is a great place to read the newspapers and enjoy the great coffee. We love it!
This is in rebuttal to the comments made by Contented373. I don't care how much of a 'sticker' you are, did you expect to be greeted with a warm hug upon arrival after such a long and stressful drive through the rolling green hills of the Huon Valley? I hear the staff at Summer Kitchen have been practicing their choreographed dance moves for a while now too which will compliment the welcome hug but with only so many hours in the day, they like to focus on quality food and serving everyone in a timely manner, on a consistent basis. I think they do a terrific job and would be hard pressed to find anyone that disagrees so before you go slandering off people from behind the anonymity of your mobile phone, think about your comments and the people they may affect. I often speak to the staff and thank them as I wander out and am met with no reply but then I remember they aren't smiling robots and are yet to master the art of hearing everything that is said over the noise of other customers, the coffee machine and background music. If you could do all of the above Contented373 then I'd definitely get into writing more reviews on these types of websites just so I could tell everybody how great you were, but then I'd wait in anticipation for you to stop smiling so that I could quickly write about that too. The good people of this world need to know the facts! To all of the bakery and cafe staff, I think I can safely speak on behalf of hundreds of customers when I say keep up the good work.
