We flew into Houston early morning and needed breakfast and coffee. Went on Google Reviews and saw that Pa Pa’s was nearby and got good reviews for breakfast so we stopped in. We probably would have passed by had it not been in GPS because the sign is old and needs repainting and it is in a building with a non descript faded store front. Walked in and saw a few tables of people (appeared to be locals and were greeted kindly by “sit anywhere you’d like.” We found a booth and sat. The inside was something… note it was mid June and all holidays were covered with Christmas paint on the windows, Fourth of July window boxes, a jack o lantern in the kitchen area and St Patrick’s Day foil decor hanging from the ceiling. Specials were handwritten on signs around the seating area and prices looked very reasonable so we decided to give it a try thinking a great local hole in the wall place. The menu is limited but had what looked like an OK breakfast list (basics: pancakes, omelettes, breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches… . We ordered coffee (me with cream and each asked for a veggie omelette (menu said 3 eggs with veggies and asked for cheese to be added. They came with choice of grits, hash browns or country fries and toast or biscuit. I went with country fries and a homemade biscuit and my husband went with the hash browns and a biscuit. The coffee came and was hot but not great. We had been up early and I needed coffee and was grateful I add creamer to help with the taste. The food came and I was immediately disappointed. The omelette did not appear to be three eggs and the fillings were scarce while the “cheese added” was a slice of American on top (the kind I always had to eat as a kid peeled out of plastic . The country fries were scarce as well and were not very warm with green peppers and onion that was barely cooked (definitely not tender . The food was bland so I doused everything with hot sauce, salt pepper because I was so hungry and that helped. The biscuit did not taste fresh and with the one small tub of butter supplied was very dry, even after adding jelly. The total bill came to $21 so definitely a very cheap meal and it appeared the server knew everyone else there so the regulars are locals. I definitely wouldn’t choose to eat here and absolutely wouldn’t go out of my way. I am not sure how it came up as a 4.3 on Google and a 4.0 (very good on Trip Advisor. The server never checked back for coffee (wouldn’t have asked for a refill anyhow or to check in at all. We ate what we wanted, got up and paid the tab on our way out.
