This place is in the hills high above Horta, on a farm. This is not like a typical town or city restaurant. It is more like eating with a family. We met a group of locals (some had come over from Pico to eat the...Leitao It was great fun, the complete pig was roasted in an old wood oven and was superb. Try some local wine or some wine from Alentejo with it and afterwards some local Aguadente. The owner is very nice, music is from a collection of old LPs from which you can choose the music. We were also cooked some good beef after the pork was finished. This is a fun and rustic place. Best to phone a day or so before as the Suckling Pig needs to be prepared and slow roasted.
Inconceivable, but absolutely brilliant, so friendly, and a firm, I am still in shock at the price, there was a group of 30 natives in the main restaurant, 8 local workers and us two in what was a mood, no complaining here, that was...plentiful and rustic, and €25 overall, it is worth an experience the walk from the city, they will love it!
It doesn't look like a restaurant. it is a well-secret secret that tour companies share nicely. traditional suppe. excellent meat on the buffet (fish a little bit crack and lack of texture) the usual local vegetables and rice and finished with a cream caramel. Dear people....Especially with wine, water and digestive. make us good for the tour of the volcano.
This unusual restaurant is a short, 5 euro taxi ride from horta and worth the effort. it is important to book. there is no menu. the owner and the chef brought honed dishes from appetizers, a fish course, a meat course, salad, broth, delicious local...wine, lilac and brandy . we couldn't eat anything because of the generous help. eating was local, simply cooked and delicious. the host has an extensive collection of classic vinyls that he played while we ate. that began with his decisions and then went to us. at the end we ended our meal with the dancing until our taxi arrived. this was an evening of local azorian cuisine and huge fun, in a magnificent and eccentric environment, with a warm and generous host, cost about 23 euro per person including wine, local liars and brandy. we had a ball.
