Surfside Bar Restaurant - Holetown

Terrible experience! Understaffed and poor leadership. Super bowl Sunday evening: our party promptly seated but downhill from there. After 40 minutes: went to bar to order/ pay and bring to our table our drinks. Never encountered a waitstaff person. Went to hostess to get menus…. Again never saw a server. Finally, exasperated after an 1 1/2 hours of waiting, we left. On the way out, the “manager” said, understaffed due to Covid. I guess… 2 years into the pandemic and at the height of tourist season, you can’t figure this out? Want some advice: limit what you serve on menu(burgers, fish, etc: keep it simple), when it’s busy, limit drinks to beer/ wine etc: no specialty drinks (take too long). The lone server we observed was hustling as best she could but her refrain of “it’s not my table” got a bit old. Keep her: fire the management and start from scratch! Might try again next year ….if the reviews suggest change has been implemented

The overall service was okay. The seafood platter serving was quite small. Not looking for a whole spread but one small flying fish and a couple shrimp along with catch of the day. I think the shrimp serving could have been more. The servings for this platter can be opened to quantity based on sizing of other fish available. You definitely need to improve on table settings. Yes, you are a beachside bar but it can’t hurt to use table covers especially since the tables are stained from constant use. The glasses need changing as well. You can see the over time wear and tear in those as well.

I had the catch of the day swordfish...fried...perhaps the best fish I have had in the past two weeks on the island. Well season and delicately cooked with a generous portion paired with rice and grilled local veggies. Surfside is always casual and the kitchen can sometimes be slow however the fish entrees are typically very good. Tonight the service was quick although it was a light night for patrons. All in all a meal to remember. On a side note our reservation although confirmed by this app was not evident when we arrived.

It is an easily accessible option for a good lunch on the beach. The service is a little spotty. In order the catch of the day which was meant to come with chips/fries and salad. The salad was no more than a garnish which was disappointing. The fish was well prepared and very fresh. I would manage my expectations and go back again because of the location and convenience.

Overall great bajan food. The kitchen is a bit slow but the food was worth the wait. Good fresh fish and local veggies.
