Bidrage med feedbackThey wanted to try the banh xeo after looking at youtube. a lot about the popular 49 banh xeo. but after reading the evaluation from many to 49 banh xeo on the bad service expensive meal, came over this an la ghien restaurant with good rating. in this restaurant there are tourists. that is eating, so is the service. Eat tastes much better when I'm served, the pancake is wrapped by my wife. the price is also favourable if it is based on local expenditure. worth visiting.
The first impression was not reassuring: signage out the front, but no clear entrance to the restaurant, the place was dead quiet at 4pm, the menu had a written welcome to tourists (which is of course friendly, but when I choose a restaurant I want to see discerning locals eating there), so I was a bit apprehensive. We ordered Bánh Khọt Miền Tây which seemed expensive at 86k. I expected them to be crispy and savory, but they were soft in texture and quite neutral in flavor. The sauces were fine and lended flavor. They came with a generous serving of herbs and lettuce: two types of lettuce and quite a few different types of rau. The Gọi Cuốn were not freshly rolled and were dry. Their Bánh Xèo did look good.
It’s Vietnamese food so it’s good, but very low quality because they skimp on the ingredients. There was only 2 small shrimp, no bean sprouts, and some enoki mushrooms in my Banh Xeo. No pork despite it was a shrimp and pork Banh Xeo. Service is good, people are friendly. English menu. Also had the spring rolls which had more shrimp and pork than the Banh Xeo. Banh Xeo was 67k, spring rolls 15k each.
Tl;dr: the place is not worth visiting if all you want is a piece of delicious banh xeo. The place: it is old and it shows. Everything has a smell of “oldness”. The stairs are also not stable at all. Chairs are creaky. Air con blasting musky smell. The food is outrageous expensive. And not at all delicious. The banh xeo, as pictured, costed vnd80k or $4. It is very unappetizing, there are only two thin prawns and few pieces of meat. It should cost $1 or even less. The banh khot, also pictured, is massively designed for westerners. The thing is so sweet and fat that just by eating it, I have diabetes type II. The rolls are ok. Service is good and quick, cause it was not very crowded when I was there. Obviously the place is popular with tourists and that is a damn shame way to introduce Vietnamese foods. Cause this is just a westernized high-priced quick eating and taste nothing like the traditional Vietnamese banh xeo.
Overpriced. Stingy on portions. Serving plates were chipped and overused. The place was hot and dirty. Definitely not satisfied!!!
