Cod and Cake meets an elite standard by which you can judge all other cafe/restaurants in this area and beyond. This is a family run business. All the staff are always welcoming, very friendly, non intrusive, discreet and always ready to help. The customer service is so professional it looks easy. The move from the former establishment (Frydays) clearly took a huge amount of hard work and dedication and it shows. The premises are extremely clean. Sit downstairs and enjoy the hustle and bustle or upstairs for bigger parties. You can come alone with your book and sit comfortably. I have it on good authority that you can now have a glass of wine, beer cider etc with your meal. Great for special occasions as well, lots of tables upstairs. The atmosphere is lovely as is the ambience. I have been several times. The food is absolutely delicious and extremely varied. You can start the day with a fresh coffee and tea cake. At lunch time you can have a lovely freshly cooked plate of fish and chips (tartare sauce and lemon) or a freshly baked quiche and salad for example. There is something for all tastes and diets. Trained barista’s on hand to make coffee, and some of the cakes are freshly made by the owner, as are some of the pastries etc to finish your meal or have later on. I suppose every comprehensive review should invoke a drawback, so I will say the stairs leading to the upstairs restaurant are a little steep but there’s a hand rail and it is only a short flight. The is no restricted access to this lovely enterprise now since the bridge re opened and consequently the main road. I would advise all to visit and take in the lovely scenery in Whaley Bridge also.
The new Fridays Is now called cod and cake. Absolutely lovely, the new place has been tastefully done. Really nice surroundings, nice decor. Massive tasty cakes a lovely location to meet up with friends. Good luck
I’d given up going for fish and chips. The last good one, Fosters in Alderley Edge has gone rapidly downhill. So I took this recommendation warily. Like lots of things in life I was totally wrong. Fried in dripping the chips we’re faultless and the fish excellent. The staff speedy and friendly, this feels like a throwback in the best way. Go.
Popped by on a Friday to get fish and chips. Good portions freshly cooked and decent value. Had used 9 years earlier and would do so again
