Ching yip is an old school hong kong caffe with a menu and decor that feels like it hasn't changed since the 80s. standard orders are here cheesy baked rice, fried chicken wings and afternoon tea sets that are good value. eating is quite simple and the staff can be curvy, so ching yip is not for everyone. visit it however for a throw back to easier times and an authentic HK experience in sydney.
I have visited chinatown for infinitely many paints, but I have never had a chance to see this restaurant. it is very difficult to find at level 2 of the dixon house, unless they are aware of it. the shop is quite like restaurants in hongkong. I have no idea how long this restaurant is open, but as far as I know it has been there for more than 10 years. each staff is busy, and they hope they can order as soon as possible because they always ask if they are ready or not. eating comes very fast, which is good. I would expect this restaurant to be more like an almost food restaurant. all close talking loud. [chicken rice spices and ham] $14 These...more
Once for lunch there, ordered Steed-Rind-Curry with rice. the taste was good, the bark was tender. Moreover, the price was quite satisfied, so a large part of the food cost me less than $15. however, the placement of the staff was very bad. she was so eager that she asked me to order immediately, even I had not yet my menu!
I came here for pre-dinner snack. Got the arvo package, the French toast and hk tea. Food wise, pretty good. Service, cannot use the word bad. It is more hilarious. The lady yield at me and told me off. I order in English and she had to confirm with Cantonese which I don't understand. I can read Chinese so I wanted to point my choice on the menu to be clear. But she then took it away, and said i understood what you wanted, just told me you wanted it cold or hot. If you don't have a sense of very dry humor, try not come, especially When you have an Asian face.
