5 Social - Halifax

I was so disappointed in this restaurant. We went Saturday night at 7pm and there was only one other couple in the entire restaurant- first bad sign. The lights were full brightness which killed the ambiance. We ordered oysters and they arrived in takeaway ramekins- for the price point, this is completely unacceptable. The oysters were super small and simply not good. We also ordered the lobster pasta and it was salty mac and cheese with lobster on top. There are so many great restaurants in the city- I’d skip this one!

Myself and friends came to five fishermen’s to enjoy some drinks one evening on the town, we sat at the bar and our bartender Andrea quickly greeted us with a smile and helped us with our drink order. We ordered some of the new holiday drink specials and also got her to make us drinks with her creative freedom tailored to what we enjoy, everything we had tasted amazing and the drinks looked beautiful! Andreas serving standards were above and beyond, she ensured our experience was personal and tailored for our night out and will definitely be returning for more delicious drinks by her!

Great drinks, landscape and service. would recommend

Service was fine, but it seemed as though the wait staff was about as despondent as us when we sat down and saw the menu. We ended up each having two drinks and leaving because the menu wasn't appealing at all. Drinks came out slowly, and the espresso martinis were more like spiked cold coffee given the actual massive volume of the drink. Even the shooters list was dismal. Really disappointed that there was a complete lack of shareable appetizers, given that it's literally named 5 Social. The main courses just looked like every other place I could've made a reservation at. Conceptually seemed to be a bit of a flop. I'd rather just commit to going to 5 Fish if I wanted to eat off of a menu like 5 Social's. So disappointed.

Despite us being the only table with customers for the majority of our visit, our meal took 2 hours because of the wait time for each course. 5 of us did dine around. The shrimp appetizer was excellent however the haddock gratin main course was just ok as it lacked in flavour. Our server was awkward. He made strange jokes and we often saw him casually sitting at the bar. We had to ask for drinks and refills every time.
