Bidrage med feedbackLake Vyrnwy is one of my go -to places with guests. Having previously had lovely lunches on the tavern terrace, I took four family members there last weekend. The only food on offer was 'vegan pasties '. We were directed to the hotel restaurant where we ended up ordering very over-priced and inadequate tapas.
I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. I arrived for lunch today after seeing on the hotel's Facebook page that they were serving paninis starting at 12pm. Since the tavern had not served food since Covid times, I was excited to eat here again. However, when I asked a young girl behind the bar if they were serving sandwiches/paninis, she rudely replied, "No, we only have sausage rolls and pasties. If you want lunch, you'll have to go to the restaurant down the road." This response was given to me while she had her back turned towards me the whole time, which I found to be very disrespectful. It was disappointing to see that there was only one other couple in the entire tavern, indicating a decline in popularity. It seems that this place has vastly deteriorated, and I fail to see the point in opening the tavern if all they can offer is a drink and a measly sausage roll at best. As locals who used to frequent the tavern, we were deeply disappointed with this visit.
We decided to dine in the restaurant and were blown away by the quality of the food. The ingredients were top-notch, with the meat being of high quality and plentiful. We couldn't finish everything on our plates, and when we mentioned this to the waitress, she suggested trying the children's portion next time for smaller appetites. The menu proudly displayed the provenance of the ingredients - organic, free-range, local, and delicious. Suppliers were also named. After a restful night's sleep, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the morning room. The cold selection buffet was well-stocked with cereals, yogurts, fruits, and pastries. The hot, full Welsh breakfast that followed was superb, with high-quality bacon and sausage. The coffee, served in individual cafetieres, was also excellent. Both parts of the breakfast were included in the room price. The staff throughout our stay were professional, attentive to our needs, but not overly intrusive. We will definitely be returning in the future! Please note that the inn is conveniently located near local attractions, gardens, and a steam railway.
We stopped for a quick early evening drink after a lovely family walk in the area. Unfortunately, we were informed that there was a wedding party the previous evening, so there was no white wine available. The outside areas, including the balcony with its stunning view of the lake, were littered with cigarette butts, masks, and vapes. We were really disappointed with the overall ambiance considering the hotel's supposed 'luxury' status. It was a shame to see such neglect.
Returned here after a few covid years for wedding anniversary lunch. The setting is stunning but it sells no more than a few stale cakes and a packet of nuts literally NOTHING, not even a sandwich or a packet of crisps. Today was a beautiful sunny March afternoon and the Tavern had NO ONE inside just a few tables occupied outside. It really is missing a golden opportunity just some fresh sandwiches, quiche, salads etc would have gone down a treat. And to add to it IT DOES NOT ACCEPT CASH so even if you just wanted a packet of nuts, you had to have a card SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT.
