Grocerya Nacional - Guimarães

Wonderful delicious organic food, excellent foods to buy in their store, and what a great assortment of wines to chose from! Fantastic place! Don't miss it when you're in Guimaraes!

We were amongst the 18,000 or so England fans who came to Guimaraes in the pouring rain for the England Vs Holland game in the Nations League last Thursday and were thoroughly soaked through when we got in to town. We were so fortunate to find this lovely little cafe that was so friendly and had a really good range of drinks and food. Initially it was somewhere to shelter as everywhere else was literally rammed full with football fans and we went in to get a coffee and dry out if we could! Once in we discovered that the Grocerya Nacional served beer at a fantastic price (we kept that quiet! so we settled in for a couple of drinks. We were soon joined by a couple of small groups of well behaved England fans and stayed for a good two hours and really enjoyed ourselves. We ended up eating here too and the food was equally nice. The weather eventually brightened up and we were loathed to leave but we had a match to watch.

Somewhat of a hidden gem. Great place for lunch, pastries etc. with also a lot of home-made products, all served by really nice, customer-friendly people. You will not be disappointed.

We had a wonderful visit for a light lunch. I had a chicken toast (what we call a panini in US) and a vinho verde, excellent white wine of the region, and terrific ice cream. Ricardo was a great host with excellent English, and gave us good insider info on the twin. Highly recommend.
