Bidrage med feedbackStamey's has been a beloved restaurant for my family for as long as I can remember. Whenever we visit Greensboro, we always make sure to eat there at least once. The barbecue is consistently delicious, the coleslaw is a great accompaniment, and the hush puppies are perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The cobbler, usually peach but with other flavors rotating, is always a tasty treat. It's hard for me to choose between the cherry and strawberry flavors because they're both so delicious.
I ordered BBQ for 6 people which included two quarter chickens, hush puppies, and slaw. Despite ordering a container for 6, there was barely enough food for 5. The BBQ was flavorless and lacked any smoke flavor. It was also tough to chew. The chicken was overcooked and dry, like chicken jerky. The hush puppies were overcooked and crunchy. The only thing that was good was the slaw, but without good BBQ, it was essentially useless. I spent $50 and was disappointed with the quality of the food. I will not be returning and will look for BBQ elsewhere in the future.
I have never had a bad experience at either of the locations, and I have been dining here frequently. Despite the busy atmosphere at times, the service is always fast once you are seated. While the menu may not be as extensive as some others, it is not necessary because Stamey's serves the best wood-cooked barbecue in the city. Having Cheerwine on tap and friendly and attentive servers are also major perks.
A Greensboro institution. I 've gone here my entire life and it 's about as local as something can get in North Carolina. Just move to the state and want the real thing ? Go here. The margins aren 't great on this BBQ and I can tell the numbers have gone down in recent years (as costs have risen), but Stamey 's has been (and I hope will always be) Greensboro 's BBQ joint. Always get the cobbler (with ice cream) with every meal, it 's a law or something I think. P.S. The
The food is consistent and consistently good. When we visit our daughter in another state, we take a feast of barbecue, slaw, hush puppies and cobbler. We enjoy the food and the friendliness of the staff. We definitely feel valued as customers. And the prices are still good, too.
