Bidrage med feedbackRead the 2 and 3 star reviews carefully. This is a mountain inn, in a remote location on 2,000m, with a small cable car to transport food, beverages and goods to the cottage. Do not expect a living comfort! Our experience was fantastic that we arrived at 16:30 to grab a beer outside to watch the sunset. We slept in a dormitory room with a few others... but a dormitory is a dormitory... it takes place for beds, not storage or other luxury. The staff runs all day and serves drinks and food. Some reviews say they are unfriendly. They're not. They're just busy all day and night. We had a bed for 75 CHF and a 2 course dinner and a beer. The evening meal was a delicious homemade soup followed by pork in a beautiful sauce with macaroni cheese (a started dish in this part of Switzerland). No complaints about the food. The showers run on a 3 minute meter for which you can buy tokens. The water was nice and warm. The only negative was that the taps in the sink did not really run water. Only enough to wet your toothbrush. The tap water does not drink water, so you need to buy a large bottle to take you or fill your water bubble. Rotsteinpass is simple, do not expect luxury and first-class service and you will enjoy your stay like us.
Great experience, wonderful location and good food. Would give 5 stars, but felt torn off for drinking water £13 for a liter of drinking water. Tap water was not drinkable and to see there was nowhere else where you could fill your bottle, all hikers HAD to pay this money after a long day of hiking and another long day before the next day. Such a shame as my experience really ruined.
Because this is a high mountain hut. We didn't expect much comfort. The facilities are clean. We were in a dormitory room, but fortunately we didn't have to share the room with other hikers. Apparently they try to assign a different room to each group or pair. The room had about 10 spots, very small without storage. The whole room has only a small lamp. Tap water running very slowly, what we understand why. Cosy shower is 5 freezer, good for about 3 minutes. There were 2 options for dinner. I chose roasted pork with cream sauce and French fries. It was too salty for my pleasure. Breakfast was bread with jam. Bottle water was 5 Sfr. I can't imagine when the place is full and you have to wait for toilets and showers. Note that there are only 2 toilets and 2 showers for women.
While Rotsteinpass itself is an amazing place to visit, and I always want to go back there, never the resthouse again. The staff was very unfriendly. You have to pay 5 francs for a shower. And must buy dinner (price for a small dish soup and cheese pasta with applesa). Otherwise there are hints in the toilet that you have to pay to use the loo if you don't buy dinner. Water in the pool is like a single tear. We have been rejected refilling for our water bottles and we have been told that since hiking to Santis, which is only an hour walk away, we can manage without water. Our whole group of 5 literally with less than 100 ml of water each. And obviously this rudeness was caused by the fact that a member of our group did not order for dinner last night. The host went ballistic when another member asked for a second (empty) cup and we were informed that it will not do for everyone to ask two cups. Not to mention the fact that it seemed a count for bread slices per person as well. Overall, it was a embarrassing, unpleasant experience to stay there. I'd rather go by Rotsteinpass and stay before or after this place.
Most unfriendly people in the world I ever meet so far, they have no manner how to treat people with respect. Be careful if you travel to that area! Drying room not working at all, Breakfast was poor, Drinks expensive like hell, No bin disposal so this mean if you are with your baby there you must bring your dippers back to the valley. The rooms were cold during night time. Water was like tear drops coming from the sink. Around 5 € extra for making a shower which lasted only 1.5 min with warm water. No house rules are given during booking but once you arrive there you feel like you are in prison with rules that only they understand. More or less it was the worst experience for me and my 10 friends. Tip down to the valley there is another friendly Berghaus which I recommend, Flis Schafboden. The nature on the other hand is fantastic therefore my complains goes to the Rotsteinpass Guesthause not to be confused the place is worthy to be visit and I suggest to all hiking friends. Kind Regards Jimmy
