If you 're looking for down home, Cajun comfort food, then Al-T 's is the place to stop. It 's right off the highway and popped up on the radar as we were zooming down I-10. The place is bright, clean, countrified enough. We were seated with a friendly smile and got our drinks quickly. And, before you know it, a bowl of cracklin 's appears in front of you. SCORE! These suckers are great! Crispy, flavorful with just a little kick of spice. An excellent start. I ordered the catfish po 'boy with the sweet potato fries. A very impressive platter of deliciousness appeared moments later. Right off the bat, the bread is ÜBER-fresh! And the reason is, they make their own bread! You have to try it to appreciate how good it is. And then you get to the catfish! Crispy, hot, flaky, breaded perfectly with a thin cornmeal coating. Just very well done AND a good portion size for that fresh po 'boy bread. The sandwich comes dressed with lettuce and tomato but no mayo. It does have some tartar sauce on the side, so that worked fine. The sweet potato fries were equally tasty and seasoned well. They were a bit wilted but it 's VERY hard to get crispy sweet potato fries. Again, service was friendly and efficient. Prices are good. We were stuffed and back on the road in no time. Hope we have an occasion to be coming by again. Would like to try the shrimp po 'boy and their other menu items.
We have stopped here several times on our way to Lake Charles. The website menu needs to be updated, last time I called In an order to go and several things I asked for they said they no longer have, it is not on the menu any longer. It is pretty basic fare, and a lot of fried stuff. The first time I got a shrimp salad and it was good however it was supposed to come with pickled okra per the menu but that was not on it. Otherwise nice and fresh. Tried the fried shrimp, boudain balls. My friend got the fried Gator both times and really enjoyed it. I like it, will stop again on our way to La.
