It’s kind of unusual for a vegetarian to choose a steak house for dinner, but, then again, it’s also kind of unusual for any steak house to have so many vegetarian options. This one did. One member of our party wanted to dine here, so in we went. It’s a cute, little place that looks like the cross between an old timey diner, a bar, and a steak house. We were seated in a booth, but I want to warn you off on those. I do not know if it was just the booth we were in, or if my belly has gotten too big, but I was not comfortable in their booth – it was so tight, it made me feel as if I would be eating out of my lap. I guess that’s OK if you don’t want to spill anything on your britches, but I prefer a little more room to move when I dine. We moved to a table. I was really pleased with the service, the attentiveness of the staff, and the great menu. There are many good options – even for vegetarians – and all at decent prices. There is a sign on the wall from the old restaurant that used to be there, and the old prices of $1.50 for Fried Chicken and such are posted with it. I liked that nostalgia, and those prices, too, but there was nothing on that menu I would eat! Anyway, I had just eaten breakfast two hours before, so I decided for the “large” Garden Salad. Other members in my group had other dishes. Everything was moderately priced, had good portions, and looked very good. I didn’t hear any complaints. My salad comes in two sizes, but, for a meal, you’d better go for a large. The menu description is not very good, so I’ll tell you what it looked like. It consisted of various greens, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, white beans, carrot shavings, and a nice vinaigrette. For me, it was perfect for lunch – very light, fresh, and tasty. It only comes with the vinaigrette dressing, but you will like it – it’s not heavy, and they use it sparingly so that you taste the flavor of the salad more than the flavor of the dressing. I liked this place, but it just made dining in Glenwood Springs that much harder. The dining in that town has become second to none. You can find everything from good, inexpensive fast food, all the way up to top of the line gourmet, and it is all good. It is safe to say that part of the fun of going to Glenwood Springs has become the dining. This is the “Little Resort Town That Could,” and is proving it every single day. What kept me from giving this place the “outstanding” rating was that the menu does not describe the available items very well. Yes, you can ask your server, but no one would ever get fed if we all had to wait for the server to describe each dish to every customer.
