I chose 'i like ' Akbars as it was mostly good but it is definitely far from the best Indian meal you can find in Glasgow. The place was packed which is always a good sign. One of the best things about this place is the staff. Our waiters were extremely attentive and helpful which is a good thing in a busy place. Onto the food. It was ok. It isn 't going to blow your mind or make you want to rush back the next day or even week. We are still trying to figure out why they gave us olives as a garnish with the starters. A bit confusing. The lamb rogan josh was tasty, lacked a bit of punch, but was good. The vegetable rogan josh was slightly disappointing though. Again no heat to it but it was mostly large wedges of tomato with a couple of slices of carrot. It felt like they had filled it out with tomato wedges and little else (there was one pea just for a touch of variety). Both the rice and the giant naan bread were nice. Bit of a middle of the road meal but not enough to dislike it. Nothing special in the sea of Indian restaurants Glasgow has.
Akbars what can I say, well...... I visited this fantastic establishment a few weeks ago (before the pre holiday health kick) and ive been raving about it ever since. The Pakistani food here is absolutely delicious and I urge anyone to give it a go. Much more friendly, helpful and tasty than a apparently highly thought of restaurant I visited recently. I'm shocked at how few reviews this eatery has recieved. On arrival we were seated at a prime table and our waiter introduced himself (albeit slightly difficult to understand his strong accent) and explained how the menu worked. He asked if we were celebrating which gladly we weren't as we soon realised that if we had been, we would have got a fancy knickerbocker glory complete with fireworks on the house. The food arrived quickly and my goodness it was soooo good. Also the traditional Asian dessert the gajar halva was exceptional. So glad we tried it. Go on, try it out. It's blooming brilliant!
I agree with the 2 critics reviews. I 've been to many Indians, including the legendary Delhi Darbar in bishopbriggs and this place rivals the Darbar and destroys the other competition. I have no clue how the like it percentage rating is so low so far. If you are reading reviews and deciding whether to go to Akbars or not, my advice is read what the critics have to say. The problem with Scotland is there is to much inbreeding. The decor in the restaurant is modern and it has a nice atmosphere. The service is second to none, the waiters are very atentative and know the menu well. I had the fish pakora for starter which was light and cooked to perfection. The chicken and spinach main I had was flavourful and a very generous portion, it was fantastic. I had the Gajar halva which was a home made Indian spin on carrot cake with home made ice cream. It was the best desert I 've had in a long time. When an indian restaurant is recomended by indian people, you go! And by jingo you enjoy! An excellent experience and I recommend this establishment to anyone.
Love this place, they have kept the price down in comparison to other popular Indian restaurants, yet the decor and quality of food is fantastic. They are famous for bringing their naans on a stand
