AKTIVHOTEL GASPINGERHOF - Gerlos

Very nice, family-run hotel in Gerlos, at the very end of the Zillertal. We stayed with our two children (3 and 5 years) for a week and we really liked it! The rooms are in excellent condition and very spacious, making it easy to spend a few hours relaxing there with the kids even on a rainy day. The staff was extremely friendly everywhere. For adults there were five courses in the evening and for the children either a children's menu or a choice of 8 children's dishes. The food was not only very good, but the children's meals always included vegetables and pasta, spaetzle and potatoes as side dishes. Of course, the classic schnitzel with fries was not missing, but there was not only that, but also a selection for the children (and their parents). We went hiking, there are many options that are also suitable for prams and can be reached directly from the hotel or in a few minutes by car. The rides on the two mountain railways near the hotel were included in the hotel price. There are two wellness areas, a swimming pool with indoor and outdoor pools, an indoor playroom and a gymnasium with a climbing wall. In winter there is even direct underground access from the hotel to the gondola lifts up to the ski area.

Bad: worst service ever seen in Austria, hidden extra costs for very young kids Good: Spa, hotel location attached to main ski elevator Explanation: This hotel has not been worth what you need to pay for the stay and does not live up to its current star rating. With our family we had booked 4 rooms (two apartments and two 2 person rooms). There were many small issues that should not be happening in a 4 star hotel. In the apartments the (floor) heating was broken for the whole week, when contacting the reception they said its no problem and they had contacted the mechanic. Not offering any support in the meantime. When saying this at the end of the week at checkout the receptionist blamed us for not pursuing the hotel to get it fixed, while it should be the other way around. Additionally the swimming pools had different temperatures, the outside pool was okay and the inside pool was colder (too cold for kids to play in), when asked about this we were told that this was not the case and we were weird for asking. No follow up action by the staff. On top of that, when we reserved a table in the hotel restaurant we were asked a day before to move the reservation to an earlier day as they were not able to service us because a larger number of hotel guests (with full boarding) would arrive. Again we had to solve this for ourselves and find another restaurant last minute. To finish it off when all this and more was discussed at the reception when checking out, our family was not treated with respect and not a single drop of understanding. Blaming us for not reaching out to the reception and staff (which we clearly had done multiple times) The good things: The rooms themselves were pleasant, although late night TVs from the neighbor can be heard. The sauna was really really good. Summarizing, the hotel stay and staff are supposed to be of a 4 star level. This is clearly not the case in our stay. Because of this I would advise you to go to another hotel in Gerlos. I know me and my family certainly will never come back here.
