Birreria Il Galeone - GENOVA

This is an amazing restaurant with a family feel and staff that do everything possible to welcome you in. The food is absolutely incredible and particular mention should be made of the pasta alla Norma baked into a delicious dome of aubergine. I couldn’t recommend this place more highly and will certainly be returning any time I’m back in Genoa!

Il Galeone is a place to come to have an “aperitivo”, but be prepared not to have dinner afterwards... The environment is family friendly and you will be surprised with the diversity in regards to age range (0-99) and this is what makes this place special. Just by the sea a treasure of Priaruggia!

Firstly, it’s in the maze of narrow streets that make up the old town in Genova and this may be your difficulty to find it. But it is worth the search! It is not fancy so not somewhere to impress a significant other, unless they are impressed my good food, in which case you have a success on your hands ! It has none of the normal tourist traps, it sells water in 0.75 l it has carafes if wine in various sides, the prices are more than reasonable see below and everything is made on the premises, the waitress I had, an older woman, was very nice and spoke English I had lunch on a Sunday in August and there was no push to move me out. The food is not fancy and being a port is focused on fish. I had an excellent spaghetti with clams volgole Then excelled Sliced steak with Parmesan and rocket was there any Italian food before rocket ? then A very nice Tirtamiso A half litre of nice dry white wine And 0.75 litre of sparkling water An espresso Coffee which was excellent and a big glass of Sambucco The total bill was 40 euros ! And the 1/2 litre of wine was 5 euros ! As an added bonus the music was good ! One final warning, the toilet for both sexes is the very old ceramic insert type although new that used to be found all over Europe, in the floor with a hole and two places to put your feet this may put off some people so be warned , there is nowhere to sit so men and women may need to crouch over the hole, best to go before if this is a problem I highly recommend this simple restaurant and if like me you are sick of being ripped off and insulted as a tourist it is well worth searching out if you like good Italian food at a fantastic price ! I’ve just read this over and it seems too good to be true but it’s not fancy and it’s buried in a maze of small streets and has an old fashioned toilet but if you can be bothered to find it you will not be disappointed I think. I think I liked it so much because it is a honest local restaurant, that I suspect mainly serves locals and so cannot resort to the tricks of the tourist restaurants and needs to have good quality food in order to survive I give it 5 stars based on my awn criteria I hope you try it and give your own opinion

A wonderful surprise... very characteristic apartment that recalls the genoese marine history, the friendly fast service available, the delicious pizza. The friendly owner makes you feel like an old friend. We felt greeted with a contained expense, a place where to return also x enjoy the sandwiches and cocktails.

Historical premises, which you used to attend every weekend, with a strong call to the marinery and the mazexins of the boatmen. Great for those who have taken a walk and look for refreshment and for those who, high, want to dispose of the drunkenness by the sea. It had to be just a drink and away, of the classic ones with friends of all time, the prelude after dinner of the promenade at sea. And instead it ends that beyond the beers, chosen from a good number of spinat and bottled and drinks, never trivial and character, you get swallowed by the menu and to piluck between a sip and the other, take a pizza to divide. Good! Wow, you don't expect. And then they skip the good intentions to keep a minimum of beach line and order another pizza round, as if I hadn't already had dinner. You get full, satisfied and when you get to the crate the smile does not turn out, because everything has had a modest and more than honest cost. And when you go out, you're already thinking about when you get back. Special mention to the service: conceal the kitchen, something not to be underestimated, young girls serving tables, but with that spirit you do not expect. With the drink comes a blond angel with two glasses: one with ice and lemon, one without knowing whether it wanted cold type cocktail or normal, so you can choose . Is there to comment? .
