The Secret Garden - Galway

Wow. The staff are the rudest. Never experienced anything as bad. It’s such a pity I used to love this place. Nearly made nee cry, then spoke to my friends and they felt the exact same

Some consistently odd behavior from the two of the younger staff there. Grimacing at my male friend silently when he says thank you! and hiring no men is just a weird look for a supposedly open LGBTQia+ establishment. Also, dropping a plate on my table with a loud clank and just walking off was a really odd touch. Just wondered what we did wrong is all! The older staff are much kinder and polite, it must be said and the curry (which I get every thursday) is amazing.

I’ve been to this coffee shop on several occasions with friends and whereas the coffee is quite nice there seems to be a problem with seating a lot of the time. On this occasion we were told that we could have a seat but only for 20 minutes as it was booked afterwards. When the 20 minutes were up we were told we had to leave and on leaving we noticed that there were other tables where there was now plenty of seating but these were not offered to us. Customer service is always a priority when dealing with the public and because this was lacking we left very disappointed.

Although I used to love this place, my most recent (and last) visit has left me disgusted. The cashier over-charged me €.50 without saying anything and once I pointed it out, she very casually said she forgot to charge my friend an extra 50c (shot of coffee in milkshake) who ordered 10 mins prior. I was absolutely shocked the server thought it was ok to charge another customer extra for a fault of her own (which if bothered by, she could have said to my friend sitting outside). I was left in shock by what happened and stood there not believing what was happening. The server then consulted another server behind the counter and then attempted retract her mistake and gave me the 50c with a mere apology. When I went outside and told my friends what had happened they were also shocked to which my friend (indirectly involved) said she absolutely wasn’t undercharged and even checked her Revolut in fear.

The cutest cafe in Galway. Staff are always so kind and welcoming (including the cat) and the atmosphere is very peaceful. Lovely oat lattes
