Bidrage med feedbackI purchased a steam bun at a street fair. It was extremely hard, the filling was mediocre, and it was overpriced.
Let me start off this review by saying that for the longest time (pretty much from when I was young till I graduated from college), I really didn 't like pork buns. The filling was decent but I thought that the bun literally tasted like squishy dough and I couldn 't wrap my head around why people were so crazy about them. Several years ago, my friend in SF took me to some top-notch Dim Sum places where I tried their pork buns and I was blown away. The bun just crumbled in my mouth and was absolutely delicious and I realized I was just having pork buns at the wrong Dim Sum places. When I stumbled across this place at a food truck festival, I figured that a truck specializing in Dim Sum buns would serve up the same quality buns that I ate at those Dim Sum places in SF. When I tasted the buns, I was quite disappointed. They tasted exactly like the buns I ate at those generic Dim Sum places. For a place that completely specializes in just buns, I was a little surprised. If you are someone who is happy with the generic buns that you get at your average Dim Sum place, then I 'm sure you will be happy with this truck but unfortunately, that 's not me.
We recently attended a MidAutumn festival where we came across the BunBao food truck. Unfortunately, our experience with this truck was not great. Despite offering preorders, they did not allow walkups and were not prepared at all. We waited for nearly two hours, missing out on a significant portion of the event, before receiving our food. There were no other food trucks available, so we had no choice but to wait for dinner for our kids. I contacted the company to express my disappointment and gave them a chance to make things right, but their response was unsatisfactory. While the buns themselves were decent, I would not visit this truck again unless there were no other food options. In that case, I would make sure to bring my own food to avoid relying on BunBao.
I really loved these at first but lately the flavor has been off and they have three times now given us the wrong flavors. We get them at the farmers market so they are frozen so we can't tell until we cooked them.
I have been seeing this place for a long time pop up on my Yelp suggestion page so I decided to finally try it. There really isn 't a counter or an inside to order from you just ask the guy at the door for an order. I wanted the chicken curry but that was a 20 minute wait so I settled for the house special pork as they had those ready to go. Just OK to be honest. Not bad but no better than any others in the area.
