Bidrage med feedbackAll the staff are kids. Screwed up the order, over salted, laughing as the screwed everything up. The topper, chefs are out back skateboarding in between orders. Never again.....and previous reviews were top notch.
This little place in downtown Fonthill is a gem. I went there for dinner and then again for lunch. Their short ribs were excellent and the duck fat fries were the best french fried potatoes I have ever had. They have an outside patio for nice days.
Had a great time at the pub on saturday night.We ordered the caesar salad,wings and duck tacos.The service,presentation and quality was very good.The entertainment was a plus and we will be returning soon.The previous negative reviews do not relate to the present situation and from my experience I recommend supporting Pub on the Hill.
We have lived in the area for 24 years and since Pub on the Hill opened less than a year ago, we decided to give it a try. I had read the reviews online and it seemed like a decent local place to go. WRONG!We got there early and there was no one in the restaurant other than one person at the bar, so we decided to opt for the bar as well. We ordered a bottle of Henry of Pelham Chardonnay…always a reliable Canadian chard. As we chatted we perused the menu and decided on our orders for the evening. Both my husband and I love curry so we decided on the curry special of the week…buttered chicken. From my vantage point at the bar, I could view the open kitchen. I was amazed to see how sterile it was …as a matter of fact too much so. Missing were the usual Prepping containers, stainless steel bowls with ingredients, or any such thing in sight. HMMM?After enjoying our wine for a while, we moved to a table to make eating our meal easier. Our server came by and we requested the buttered chicken curry with a side of the duck fat fried fries. We were told that the kitchen was making a “new” batch and it wouldn’t be ready for 40 minutes or so…but our server said she would check with the kitchen to determine the actual availability time. This was 6:30 and the special wasn’t even done? When our server came back from the kitchen she informed us that it would be 20 minutes. I could only imagine what it would taste like. Both my husband and I were skeptical so we decided to go with a more basic item…the fried chicken burger and the short ribs for myself.When our meals arrived, they looked decent although my ribs were lacking gravy. As we started to eat, on a hot temperature scale of one to 10, they were a two. We called our server over and told her both meals were barely lukewarm. She apologized and returned both to the kitchen. In the meantime, we dug into the fries…thankfully they were good. Within a few minutes our meals returned, my short ribs were slightly warmer….a four….and my husband’s chicken burger was hot but tasteless and dried out. I only ate a third of my meal…the short ribs were quite fatty plus still lukewarm. My husband ate most of his because he was hungry. When our server returned, she apologized again. My husband mentioned to her that they needed better kitchen staff to which she replied that they had lost their chef last week and were trying to make due. Here is where the owners are at fault…if you have lost your chef and you are serving totally substandard food….do not serve food until you get a replacement. I know the gal in the kitchen was doing the best she could…but she isn’t a cook. Our server did comp one of the meals…frankly it really didn’t make any difference. It was a total waste of an evening, our time and our money. We won’t be returning that is for sure. If you can’t trust the owners to do right by their patrons…there is no point in going again.
I was there for a quick date a few weeks ago on a Friday night. The inside is modernly updated however I wish that they had some sound barriers as the pub itself is quite small - it was hard to carry on a conversation as you could hear everyone else's at the same time. I was impressed with the beer selection. The food menu looks awesome - we tried their wings because they were on special. They were okay...it seemed like they boiled the wings instead of frying them. I would suggest throwing them on the grill after tossing them in sauce. We also only got 3 carrot sticks..would have been nice to get a few more. I will be back to try it another time
