Bidrage med feedbackThe attention to detail that this restaurant has is insane. From the service to cutlery and the actual dishes themselves. Very well thought out and executed in a beautiful manner. <br/ <br/ The quality of the food is just top notch. Highly recommend the pork katsu and warabi mochi dessert.
Located in Redfern, this restaurant has a sophisticated Japanese vibe to it. Dimly lit, long tables and some seating up at the chefs space. Lovely craftsmanship in the bowls and teapots and the minimalist cafe has a good aura to it. We’ve been eying off Juan bowl for a while now after seeing delicious pics on Instagram. This little restaurant is selling a short menu of savoury don, Japanese for bowl. Essentially these are rice bowls (with your selection of rice) and your topping selection. Some of their offerings include a Hainan Chicken Rice or Wagyu Bowl.
A small and humble Japanese restaurant tucked away in Redfern. We really enjoyed the tonkatsu which was very crispy and light. Their wagyu beef don wasn’t that flavourful even with the sauce so that was a bit disappointing, but it was still good. The matcha tiramisu was delicious with a super smooth and slightly sweetened matcha cream.
I’m 100% satisfied with my experience at Juan last year. Booked online one day ahead for a early dinner on Friday. I ordered the wagyu beef bowl and my mum went with the eel one. Enjoyed both dishes and particularly the wagyu one best ever had in Sydney. The tea recommended was also a perfect compliment to the dish. Please ensure you save some room for desserts because both of them (matcha tiramisu and mochi) are worth it! Their menu is limited but you will know that everything they put on the menu is made to perfection. Will definitely be back!
Tonkatsu $23) 4.5/5<br/ 2 hours slow cooked Bangalow sweet pork tonkatsu, free range scrambled eggs, red cabbage, roasted tomatoes, house apple mustard mayo, miso sesame sauce<br/ <br/ First bite into the tonkatsu and wow! Not only was the batter was fluffy and beautifully crispy but most importantly, the pork was perfectly cooked and insanely juicy definitely the best tonkatsu I've ever had! The pork paired well with the miso sesame sauce which I preferred over the apple mustard mayo. The scrambled eggs were smooth and delicious but I certainly would have liked more of it as there was simply not enough to go with the rice. Despite this minor setback, Juan Bowl Tea fully deserves this rating as the heavenly tonkatsu certainly speaks volumes about the expertise of the chefs.
