Bidrage med feedbackWhat can I say other than AMAZING!! The clue about the place is in the title ‘pig’ and ‘pallet’ Excellently cooked smokehouse meat and brilliantly decorated quirky little place! The service was so friendly and attentive and didn’t get the name of the person who served us but they were hilarious and joined in with a lot of our banter. BEST smokehouse I have ever been to. Oh and the Bacon Jam.. just WOW!! Definitely get 5 stars from us!
Myself and I partner phoned the pig and pallet on a Friday evening, we were welcomed by a lovely young lady who was very accommodating and super friendly! When we arrived our table was ready and we were greeted from smiles from all staff. Would 100% recommend as the food is also very yummy But definitely visit with an empty stomach!
Great food, good beer and a lively atmosphere. Portions are large! If you don’t have a big appetite share!
I visited Pig and Pallet with a couple of friends one evening. The setting and atmosphere was nice and rustic and first impressions were quite good, although the seating was admittedly fairly uncomfortable. In terms of the main attraction, the food, this was a complete and utter letdown. I had a dirty dog and poutine whilst my friends both had burgers and chips. The dirty dog was nothing special nor did it taste that great, it felt like a supermarket-bought hot dog whilst the pulled pork on top was really rather tasteless with no meaningful smoked flavour as you'd expect, utter let down which looked better than it tasted. The poutine arrived luke warm with a sorry looking portion of chips and melted cheese, it was rather bland and required a generous amount of seasoning. The plating of the food also leaves very much to be desired as I did not enjoy eating out of a plastic tray. In terms of my friend's meals, they echoed my experience describing it average at best. The pricing was rather eye watering and not in line with the sad state of affairs that was the food; don't get me wrong I am always happy to pay for good quality food but it was just not the case here having had much better for much less at other places. Moving on to the service, the gentleman that served us was friendly and handled our orders swiftly, no complaints there honestly. What I didn't quite like was the added service charge as I prefer to tip cash if the service was good; makes you feel bad asking for it to be removed (we didn't ask). Lastly, there's no parking on-site, not a deal breaker as I don't mind the walk but something to bear in mind. Overall, based my and my friends experience it's not a place we'd visit again any time soon; it was a pretty big let down having heard good things about it in the past.
The first time we were here was last year and the food was fresh, tasty, reasonably priced and we loved it . Sadly tonight's second visit was a very different experience. The menu has changed. The smoked sausage I thought delicious last time is now a shrivelled very dry, tough overcooked hot dog. The ribs were overcooked and dry. There is no salad garnish and no coleslaw. The beans are in the tiniest ramekin possible. There were literally 14 beans in it. Yes I'm sad and counted! The fries were OK but for£4.50 I would have expected a decent size portion. The onion rings were OK but homemade are so easy and so much nicer than bought in frozen ones. The smoked gravy was not at all smoky but was like a pepper sauce. The wings and tings.. 2 wings and 1 drumstick..£7.50?? Again quite dry and overcooked. No alternative to chips on the menu such as mash or rice. The service was very good though and both the staff who served us were efficient and very pleasant. In summary, very disappointing meal and unfortunately we won't bother to drive all the way from okehampton again.
