Poppy's Bites Barrels - Ernul

Went here on a recommendation. Found the place easily as it is downtown New Bern. The service was nice but the food was just okay. I enjoyed my meal but it was not as memorable as other places. Typical bar food mixed with southern home cooking. There is something on the menu for everyone.

The Blackberry Mule was delicious!!!! I ordered a Brisket sandwich. Chris, my server, asked what I wanted as a side. Phrased as if it was included. Upon receiving the check, I was charged $1.50 for the side. The apple vinaigrette on the side salad was delicious. The Brisket sandwich was just ok. I was expecting it to be sliced instead of shredded.. Doubtful I would return

Wasn't impressed when this place was Beer Army. Mistake to think a name change would help. Went with six. Wait time with visibly open tables was longer than the half hour estimate. Wait for food after ordering was over half an hour for three salads, two apps and a cheese steak. Waitress was good about drink refills in that time on a hot day. The sweet tea was excellent. None of the salads came out right first time. Cheese steak was mediocre.

We sat outside with our dogs. Hostess brought our dogs water right away. Impressed. Unfortunately our waiter was not as attentive to us. Waited quite a while for drink orders to be taken then another while for delivery. Long wait for our food. Street tacos and Mac cheese were fabulous. Philly cheese steak just average. Waiter never came back to check on us until we finished our meal. I drank my husband's water to finish our meal. Too bad because otherwise I'd give a much better review.

Must of hit them on an off day after reading other reviews. Hubby had a burger which was good. Onion rings were only warm and not very good. I had fish tacos. Hardly any fish and the taco shells were tasteless. Home chips were ok. So many places to chose from this is off my list.
