Bidrage med feedbackWe stopped in for lunch with friends. The owner met us and said if we were in a hurry it might take a little longer to get your lunch. He said he just wanted us to know that before hand. We were setted and made our order. We had great conversation with our friends as we were not in a hurry. Lunch was out in no time. Everything we had was delicious and well prepared. It's a great setting in downtown Ennis. We would definitely go back. Prices were very reasonable.
If you are in or near Ennis, please go here. Let me tell you how awesome the owner is. My wife and I were flying out from South Carolina to celebrate her 40th birthday. I wanted to surprise her with a cake when we got there but I struggled to find a baker long distance. I ran across this place on google and emailed the owner. He responded with something like We 've got you covered. Just tell us what you need and we 'll do it. On our drive in from the airport we picked up the cake and it was perfect, and a very reasonable price. Three days later, after a long day at Yellowstone, we wanted a good meal so we stopped in Tavern 287. The place, at that moment, was almost empty, but Bruce said he couldn 't seat us because all the tables were reserved and would be full in the next 30 minutes or so. We understood and were about to leave, but then I thanked him for the awesome cake a few days earlier. Once he remembered who we were, and that it was my wife 's birthday, he fit us in and at the window seat! We felt very special and honored! Ok, so he was great. But the food my wife got the homemade ravioli and it was the best ravioli I 've ever tried. Her beet salad looked amazing as well but I didn 't try it. I was too busy eating hush puppies and braised elk with risotto. To say that the food is fantastic is an understatement. I mean, I was expecting the hush puppies to be run of the mill, but they were anything but. And the flavors of the elk, demi glace, spices, and whatever else was in the risotto let you know that the chef (and the owner) are the real deal. I went home wondering how a restaurant like that is in Ennis (nothing against Ennis, of course). All in all, super nice owner, fantastic food. What more could you ask for?
Tavern 287 is a small space so I do recommend making a reservation. The food was amazing. And the deserts were even better. I think a stop here for dinner is a must while in Ennis!Sam E.
5 stars all around. Consistently the best place in town to eat. Bruce is the man and is extremely nice. The guy does it all.Heads up you will need a reservation if you’re planning on going any time during the summer.
Hush puppies were undercooked with batter left inside. We ordered wagyu steak well done; it came out medium rare. The steak texture was strange, could not eat it. Spaghetti and meatballs were good, and staff very friendly.
