Bidrage med feedbackI went to Happy Hour because I wanted to eat light before I met Yoga Tropics. For Sushi I usually go to Mr. Sushi nearby or Ogata in PB. It seems like a Chinese family bought the place, maybe recently. On the Happy Hour Menu there was valuable little to eat. I had false soup, dude that Tofu and a salmon roll. There there was hardly anyone, a few women who jumped with the couple who owned the restaurant, which pieces where a part of the Happy Hour price, and the next stand an AA sobrety lunch. No good sign. The soup was salty. The salmon hand roll was miniscule. The Tofu was over. They accused me of green tea. I had to wait a long time for the check, although there were more employees than customers. They gave me a bill for $32, which was for the AA people, and then the bill was for $10. That was so little. Then they said my card wouldn't go through! I went to BevMO next door and got V water and cash and paid them with the same card they had problems with. They said they're sorry to leave them a dollar. I really miss the sushi on the Rocks Happy Hour in the forum. The Happy Hour at the Beach Grass Cafe is also really good. I don't drink alcohol, so I'm mainly going for food. My advice to my neighbors is to stay with Mr. Sushi and try Beach Grass.
I have been going to Sushi House since the kids were in Elementary School. They are now 30 and 32. Same family owns it for all these years, although the parents did retire. Same man named John (Asian if you are counting on that) still behind the sushi bar, making amazing sushi. They have added a Mexican man behind the Sushi Bar who has kids that are vegan and makes incredible Vegan Rolls. Make sure you ask for John, if you are not vegan and you will be satisfied every time. It has always been slower service.... but not rude service, and not so slow that you even notice. Order Edamame or salad like any other restaurant... and the rolls will come next! I am eating lunch with a girlfriend tomorrow. If there are any changes to report I will get back at ya! Healthy Happy Eating, Chef Marian
With so many poke places out there that I've tried over the last few months, Sushi House is the one that's closest to home. Which is why it's a bit wild to me that it took so long before I actually came here for a bowl. When I finally did ... well, the experience pretty much underwhelmed us all. First off, I haven't been to the adjoining sushi bar in a very long time, so I can't remember how most of their fare was, but when my son ordered a California Roll for his own lunch, we were a bit disappointed to see one of those fake crab meat sticks jutting out from the end. Now, I know that pretty much every place uses fake crab meat, but at least go the extra mile (or half block) and mix it up with something a make a little, vibrant looking, crab salad. Not this dry, oddly sticky disappointment we received. Oh, well ... at least the four year old at the table enjoyed it; plus, they As for the poke itself, the quick answer was that it was just alright. The fish itself was fresh ... enough, but we had some major problems with what was in our bowls: Looking at the bowl of salmon they offered, you could see multiple colors contained therein. And I don't mean one pink and one lightly whiter shade that just had a nice ribbon of fat on it, I mean there were multiple shades of red ranging from a bright pink down to a deep reddish brown. It was as if someone cut up two or three farm raised and wild caught salmon all up in one bowl and tossed it together. The Fried Onions they have as a topper are extremely stale, like a few days old stale. My better half grimaced when trying to take the first chew and had to suffer the rest of the way through struggling to enjoy what was worth enjoying under the non-crunch. The scoops of fish themselves were pretty small. Where most places load up heaping spoonfuls, this place seems a bit more carefully measured, making the whole of your bowl rice and fixings instead of the tuna and salmon you were expecting. On the plus side, they did have both Octopus and Scallops, two things I look for in my poke bowls. On the minus side, those scallops were a little spoiled that day (still edible, just a tad fishy as opposed just sea salty fresh). And because of that, we haven't been back. I'm not sure if some of those issues we had were just that day or if they are on-going, but with so many other poke places that rank so much greater in our eyes, we haven't been in too big of a hurry to try and find out. Unless we ever do, Sushi House Poke stays at a very weak three stars for me.
TRUTH. There are only two places in Encinitas that are worth stopping at in. Any negatives about Sushi House are written by jealous competitors who at one time worked at Sushi House. Sixteen years they have led the sushi revolution and still do to this day. Blue Fin is a joke. He plagiarized what he learned and then went flat when he had to do it on his own. We have lived in Encinitas for 27 years, traveled the globe and know good sushi. John and his family know fish and how to create great taste sensations. Don't be fooled! John at Sushi House rocks. Try the soft shell crab in a lettuce wrap. Fresh and crunchy, cold and warm. Great sensation. The Victoria Secret roll is one to order early so you can keep the sauce for everything thereafter. David is an amazing addition to their staff. A true master of fine sushi and quality!
Went here after going to the music what love. I ordered the crunchy roll and shared garlic edamame. The garlic edamame didn't have any garlic. In fact, it was sweet. So that was disappointing especially when I asked if they used fresh crushed garlic. The crunchy roll was good. Ordered a Diet Coke and it was flat. Service was ok. I don't I'll be back since I don't live in the area.
