Bidrage med feedbackFood quality varies wildly from order to order. One person may get an excellent burger and the next person something half undercooked, half overcooked, and missing all the toppings. One person may get an excellent salad and the next person a plate of only lettuce mixed with soggy cucumbers. Usually the Chicken Parmesan is battered like fish instead of breaded. Sometimes the Chicken Caesar Wrap contains no chicken. Quesadillas are cut into bizarre rectangle shapes. Credit for the wings though, they're consistently good. Kind of feels like each time the cook starts an order they approach it like the very first time in their life they've tried their hand at the craft. Or, just mastered how long to properly cook cheese sticks and another order coming up? Clear your mind, let's use a completely different temperature and time this next batch. Oops, do BLT sandwiches always have tomato on them? All that said, the servers are excellent and the owner is nice. Really just here for the beer.
Bars like this one in Elk Grove Village are hard to find. If it's this bar it's for sure hard to find if you aren't aware it's already here. At Work is an appropriate name because it's in some mostly industrial area. Located next to a related liquor store which shares the building. The prices are pretty good on drinks and food which is basic stuff. After making plans for somewhere else, we came across this bar. It's not much to look at from the outside. The liquor store is more prominent. Bar is actually attached. There's a small door to the bar and a sign pointing out games and slots. It's about $7 for a cocktail. There's not that much great to eat. Typical bar stuff. It's about $5 for chips and salsa, probably the healthiest thing on the menu. The bartender was friendly and some people would say too friendly but I had no problems. Get some drink and cheap food. It's got the liquor store next to it so get some to go. The food orders can be slow but that's about the only bad thing.
This place is on my list of top 5 favorite dive bars. When you walk in there's a room to the right that has pool tables, darts and giant checkers! Then just when I thought it couldn't get any better. A band started jamming and they sounded incredible! The glass wall in between us created the perfect amount of sound. We ordered pizza and it was hot and delicious. Our bartenders were friendly and attentive.
The plates were dirty. Some had hairs on them when they were brought to the table, and others had an oil slick coating on them. Others had small pieces of dried food on them. Maybe they need a new dishwasher?.....maybe they are overloading the dishwasher?......maybe they don 't give a ****...who knows. I was hard pressed to even eat the food once I saw the dirty plates but I was starving so I decided to take the risk. I ate off of a napkin....The nachos were terrible. The steak on the nachos was dry. The tortilla chips were soggy from the canned cheese. The 'salsa '.....I don 't even know what that was. The guacamole....seemed like some prepackaged factory made **** you would buy at a grocery store. The spicy cheese curds were like little oil sponges and had a weird fishy flavor (I 'm guessing from the oil? . Gross experience all around. No thanks.
We were pleasantly surprised by this place. They had amazing spicy cheese curd appetizers everyone's meal was good or great. The food hit the spot after a day of travel. Place was clean and has live music. Service was top notch. I'd like to give it a 4.5.
