Peter's Yard - Edinburgh, City of

Peter's Yard is a charming cafe with a selection of cakes and biscuits that look delicious. However, I found that the quality of the food did not match the appearance, and it may not be worth the price. My raspberry and cashew scone was dry and lacking in flavor, and I was surprised to be charged an extra 30p for butter. While my latte was decent, I expected more for the price of £2.90. The service was also lacking, as the girl who served me seemed disinterested. On a positive note, my friend enjoyed their tomato and Wensleydale soup, and the bread is said to be excellent. Overall, my experience at Peter's Yard was not as impressive as a previous visit to the Stockbridge branch, which I highly recommend.

While Peters Yard is more of a Bakery than a coffee shop, they still need to produce coffee as good as their food. Their layout with the food in the middle of the cafe, surrounded by tables and the queue, where you pick up and carry the food to the counter to pay for it, is just odd and awkward. The coffee is more often too hot and comes across in a tarnished flavour in the coffee itself. The food though is not that bad, but the general experience just really lowers the score than I can give.

Swedish Elan. Located in the upmarket Quartermile, this scandinavian cafe was never going to be cheap. £5:20 for a latte and a doughnut probably explains why it's not full of students !! However, full it was, so much so that I had to squeeze into a space at the window. I enjoyed my coffee and snack but it was not the relaxing experience I had hoped for. I probably picked a bad time (13:10) but I think Loudens do it better, cheaper and in a more accessable location.

Don 't bother!. After visiting the meadows festival yesterday, we fancied a coffee, so decided to give this place a try. As it was a nice day, we wanted to sit outside so went for the 'to go ' option. Waited for AGES in the queue, well at least it must be good if it 's this busy. This queueing time was used to make choices as to what to have; several large signs giving both 'sit in ' and 'to go ' prices so I knew what to order when I eventually reached the till, only to be told by the cashier that we should have gone elsewhere if it was 'takeaway ' that we wanted and that I should have seen the signs for their other dedicated takeaway shop and would I like directions? I had a fantastic experience at Peter's Yard today. I met a friend for coffee and we both enjoyed our drinks - I had a beautifully decorated latte and my friend had an apple juice. The cakes were so tempting that we couldn't resist trying them. I chose a delicious marzipan cake that was fresh and perfectly sweet, while my friend went for a cardamom bun that was as tasty as it looked. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was light and airy. The only downside was that it was quite busy. Overall, a great place to visit.
