I just wish there were more seats in the restaurant!
It is a small and popular restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and pleasant decor. Orders are placed at the front counter and then brought to your table when ready. I decided to order a pie and was offered the option of adding beans and mashed potatoes. I agreed and was pleasantly surprised when the beans turned out to be baked beans, not green beans as I had expected. Despite this, the meal was delicious. My companion even raved about the mashed potatoes, claiming it was some of the best she had ever tasted. Overall, the pie was delicious, the mashed potatoes were exceptional, and the beans, although different than expected, were still tasty when combined with the rest of the meal. Auld Jocks Pie Shoppe is definitely worth a visit.
Who ate all the pies? When it comes to this small lunchtime treasure, I would love to eat ALL the pies! Situated in the Grassmarket, this cozy pie shop could be easily missed among the numerous pubs serving similar overpriced, standard pub fare. If you're in the mood for great value comfort food, this is the spot for you. A plate of pie and mash will only set you back £3.90, not bad for a hot, satisfying lunch in a popular tourist area in the heart of the city! My favorite pie is 'Auld Jock's Pie', a delicious twist on a classic mince pie with added HAGGIS and CHEESE. As for the mash, I am quite particular about my mashed potatoes, but I must say that Auld Jock's provides the perfect creamy texture and delicious taste, topped off with a generous serving of gravy. The cafe is small, so getting a seat inside isn't always guaranteed. However, when the weather is nice (or at least dry by Scottish standards), there are outdoor seats that are perfect for enjoying the ambiance of the old town without the tourist price tag. It's a quaint, friendly little cafe that stays true to what it does best. For those days when all you crave is a good pie, Auld Jock's is the perfect choice.
This lovely little restaurant is an ideal spot for a delicious Scottish breakfast. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. While it was too chilly to dine al fresco, the breakfast menu featured classic dishes like haggis and black pudding. Located right in the heart of town, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. I highly recommend it.
Had a great Scottish breakfast here when I visited Edinburgh to catch up with an old friend. The shop is cozy, the service is very nice and attentive, and both the coffee and the breakfast were cooked with love. I forgot to take a photo of the breakfast itself, but it has 1 slice of toast, an egg with orange yolk(I'm more used to the yellow yolks, love the orange one more), baked beans, a sausage, a slice of non fatty bacon, and a slice of haggis and another of black pudding. I'm not a fan of the latter 2, but I tried both anyway.
