Bidrage med feedbackGreat value if you come during happy hour $1 oysters)! The place was packed when I went but luckily they had a couple of spots at the bar. Overall, it is pretty small inside and a little cramped. The oysters tasted really fresh and they have some of the best clam chowder I've had in the area. The only complaint I have is that the crab cakes were a bit cold when they came out but they were still tasty!
Nothing but great things to say about this place. We were in town and heard it was a must did not disappoint. Sat at the bar, had a great meal, and met some wonderful locals. Make sure this place is on your list when visiting the Providence area!
My partner and I came during Happy Hour one day and luckily found a seat at the bar. The restaurant is very intimate and tables cane be hard to come by if you come during a busy time. After a couple of minutes, we put in our drinks and food, and then watched a parade of oysters and clams being shucked. We ordered 18 $1 oysters and they were some of the best $1 oysters I've had, extremely fresh tasting with a hint of brininess from the water. We shared a bowl of clam chowder as well and it was supreme to all of the other chowders we had sampled in the area recently (Matunuck, Iggys, Brick Alley). It had incredible flavor and had large bits of clams and a good ratio of potatoes. In addition, we shared the sticky calamari and crab cakes. The sticky calamari was unlike any calamari I've had before, it was covered in a balsamic reduction which was sweet and savory at the same time but I was a big fan. The crab cake was delicious as well, jammed pack with crab meat and the portion was healthy. I hadn't been to Greenwich Bay Oyster Bar in a few years but I am already looking forward to the next meal there. The service and food were excellent!
We landed here after leaving another restaurant before ordering dinner due to an extremely bad experience. The hostess, while very busy due to being short staff was super friendly, pleasant and helpful. We waited for a bit for a seat at the bar and was greeted by friendliness from everyone who worked there. Which honestly was balm to a wound after the restaurant we had just come from. We started with 2 each of the 4 featured oysters- fantastic! We went to fried oysters- perfection! I got lobster risotto and I got a little lost on this dish and it was my fault for not reading the fine print. Really it 's 3 seared scallops on a lobster flavored risotto that had little bits of lobster meat in it. It appeared to be a popular dish and I can see why but it wasn 't my thing. I wish the menu read seared scallops on lobster risotto as the headline to this dish. But again completely my fault for being distracted and not reading the fine print. My friend got the salmon special on butternut squash ravioli with a maple bourbon sauce... it looked fantastic! We ended with Pierre Ferrand cognac and creme brulee. Excellent!! Restaurant is small and decorated tasteful! Love the teal walls! We 'll be back for sure!
Greenwich Bay Oyster Bar was a delightful location to have dinner before a show at the Greenwich Odeum. After reviewing the menu online, my dining partner and I located parking on-road in the surrounding area and made our way to the location. I had no idea how small this location was! Glad we got there early before the major crowds rolled in because we were seated, enjoying our dinner, watching everyone gather trying to get a seat. I'm sure my review would have a different flavor if I was one of those patrons but the lesson to learn here is that you can enjoy the culinary delights of this location without too much hassle if you just plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to wait for a table. One drawback to their small footprint is that there really isn't anywhere to wait for a table but out in the cold or all crammed together in the entranceway. On to the food... I ordered the Shrimp Scampi which I was very pleased with. Absolutely full of flavor, very rich. A Salmon Burger arrived to our table as well and (wow! it was massive!! I'm not into raw bar oysters but this location offers buck-a-shuck across various hours of the day. The display of oysters on ice behind the bar was impressive. Ended the meal with a gluttonous piece of peanut butter pie which left me satisfied in time for an evening of music. I would definitely return to this location but would perhaps choose an off-evening if not in the area for a show.
