Natalino Restaurant - Dorval

This restaurant could use more reviews. I am the fourth person to review it. I had a good meal here while in town for business.

I tried two homemade pastas at this restaurant and was unimpressed. Both dishes were overly salty and lacked any unique flavors. Additionally, the mussels seemed past their prime.

Closed, so we decided to check out Reuben's Diner. The food was absolutely incredible - my husband had the smoked meat sandwich and I had the poutine, both of which were delicious. The service was friendly and quick, and the prices were very reasonable. Overall, a fantastic dining experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Montreal.

When you walk in you think: this must have once been a great place. It's a 70s time warp with stucco and dark-wood beam ceilings, low lighting and dark paneled walls. A review from the L.A Times and a photo of a young Pavarotti posing the with chef attest to its glory days. But, the ambiance and menu haven’t held up.The latter is presented in an old booklet with yellowed plastic covering the pages and looks decades old. My husband’s veal Marsala was limp and lame; the sauce, tasteless. We paid almost $6 extra for a handful of sausage pieces on the linguini Alfredo plate. However, my pizza was very good. Only two red wines were offered by the glass so we passed. The waiters were professional, but that didn’t make us feel better when we got the overpriced bill.The dark and dated dining room is a stark contrast to the vibrant and airy outdoor terrace, which is surrounded by potted flowers. Walking past the century-old red-brick building with its wide, inviting balcony-terrace dining -space is what compelled us to try it out.Natalino’s rep in the West Island is longstanding. We’ve heard so much about this Italian place, but clearly the owners are living in the past.

We were 15 at the long table in the private area next to the main dining room. The meal had set choices and each one was great and very tasty, the service was prompt and friendly. We have been here before and always enjoyed the wonderful Italian menu.
