Bidrage med feedbackExcellent food and very good service. We were in the village of Sykehouse for the weekend and called in to the pub for coffee and cake. Very good value, excellent coffee and cake. The young landlady spent some time with us explaining what had happened recently to two nearby houses which had been on fire. The menu had a reasonably varied selection. My wife was very pleased with her haddock and chips and my fish pie was very good although I’ve never had a fish pie in a crust before. My only criticisms were that the vegetables should been more varied and a larger quantity and it could do with serving a decent bitter beer
Last Saturday, we celebrated my partner's 40th birthday party at The Old George in their marquee, and what an amazing night it was! Rosie, John, and the team at The Old George were incredibly accommodating with all of our requests, including dietary intolerances and special requests. We had a fantastic time, and everyone had only positive things to say about the experience.
I haven't reviewed The Old George in Sykehouse for a few years due to lockdowns and being shielded during Covid. It is now under new ownership but still a family-owned pub. I recommended to my wife and two friends that we go there for a meal and we were not disappointed. The owners, Rosie and John, were incredibly welcoming and helpful, as were the chefs and bar staff. The menu offered a great variety of starters, main meals, and desserts. I opted for Breaded King Prawns with a Chilli Sauce Dip, followed by a perfectly cooked medium rare Sirloin Steak with chips. For dessert, I enjoyed a delicious Creme Brulee. The Saturday night atmosphere was impressive and our friends were also impressed. A big plus for me was the easy parking, with plenty of space for camping and caravans. The Old George is a perfect village pub that combines tradition with modernity.
Staying locally in a lovely cottage and the landlady recommended the old George, well thank you Sarah, the food, service, value all spot on. We ate twice and the Sunday lunch was amazing. The local rib of beef was cooked to perfection and the Yorkshire puddings and gravy would make James Martin smile! Service was faultless and Emily did us proud. Place was busy, buzzing with families and lots of satisfied customers, oh and very dog friendly. We will be returning soon. Well done Rosie
