We weren't too hungry, so can't comment on any of the other things on the menu. But what I had I really liked! I'll definitely go back to try this place again.
The best quality ingredients, fresh lettuce, tomato, cheese, bread...make this small bistro style burger joint the best in town, I'm american and from new orleans, so, i can attest with full, enthusiastic honesty, they will cook you burger to temperature, medium rare, rare, are my favorites, the fries are crisp, and the lime may is a refreshing change, he also makes summer rolls, that make a great quick snack...in the evening its candle lit, and becomes a real bistro, you can't beat the wine selection as well...this place is a winner!! Bravo!
We tried Tilmanns when it first opened and found the Vietnamese Summer rolls delicious. I had a burger which was also great, but pretty small unless you order the larger size. Once you add some fries the price is getting high, but then the quality is good. We've returned a few times since to get summer rolls to take away and the food has been consistently good. But here's the catch: The staff have a very snobby attitude and the service itself is simply poor. For example: We arrived and stood at the counter to order (there is no table service). The lady scraping the grill saw us, ignored us and simply turned away. No "Hello, just one minute my colleague will be right out to help you", nothing at all. Then the younger colleague came and took our order. She turned out to be pretty incompetent, struggling to find something suitable to wrap the take out order, in the end we gave her tips on how to use some alu foil. My guess is that the place is run by friends and family of the owner, it certainly looks that way, since the staff is dressed more for sipping a prosecco with their girlfriends than for flipping burgers. My free business advice to the owner:1. Recognise that the service industry has moved on from the "customers are a pain" attitude in Germany 20 years ago.2. Hire some young and friendly staff with experience and train them well. There are a lot of options for upmarket burgers in Darmstadt now, and repeat customers will be needed to survive. Sadly, we will not be among them.If you found my review helpful, I'd appreciate your vote.
