Food came quick. Fried shrimp good. Fried oysters good. Pulled pork chewy. Fried gator tail tasted old and was chewy. Fries good. Way over priced. Beware, $1.50 charge for using credit cards.
Located just off I-95 there isn't much to Darien, Georgia but if passing through, going to stop, grab a bite to eat and want to browse around a little, this is one of your better bets. They not only have a rather complete Southern Style menu offering, but also a whole bunch of various hot sauces, jams, jellies, various pickled and baked goods for sale as well as some local fresh produce. One of the things I had for my first time was peach cider. I also found their canned peaches, of which I purchased several jars, to be the best I've ever had. For food, I had their fried green tomatoes which came topped off with grilled shrimp and one of their fish, grouper, sandwiches. Both were good size in portion as well as rather tasty. The place is spotless, pleasing to the eye, the service home spun southern friendly and really sort of fun to browse around.
Ordered a Brunswick stew, a crab stew, a grill shrimp salad and a soft-shell crab po-boy. The wait time is over half an hour. We came in around 8:30PM and it is 9:14PM and we are still waiting for the sandwiches. Finally we got the food to go and the waitress apologized for the delay and gave us a free fish sandwich. The taste of the dishes were good despite the delay.
Stopped here with my lovely niece, Airelle to get take out . . . it was a MAH zing. For dear old Dad, we ordered the ribs, with twice baked potato and green beans. For myself, I couldn 't resist the jumbo fish sandwich (grouper) and fries. I took off a star because the décor could use some tweaking as previous reviewer said they are in a former Huddle House) and they forgot my tartar sauce. They also have some unusual French fries. They 're sorta like potato wedges but they have the consistency of baked French fries very tasty though. Just to pack on the cal O ries I picked up a slice of the sweet potato lava cake (that my Mother loved). Staff was friendly and helpful and personable . . . They have a pretty expansive menu for such a tiny place they sell barbecue, seafood, burgers along with ice cream, baked goods and preserves (and souvenirs see pics). I snapped a photo of the menu. If you 're ever in Darien make sure you give them a visit! PS they are inside the country store right next to Burger King. The signage and exterior are a little misleading so they 're somewhat easy to miss. On top of that the sister restaurant Blackbeard 's Cove is located in Shelman Bluff or Townsend a few miles 'up the road ' so I had a time finding a listing for them. Hopefully this note will help others find them.
