Bidrage med feedbackPenang is located in Chinatown Philly. This place was packed! With a long waiting line. The staff was super busy hustling around but they made sure to greet guests in a friendly manner. The seating was good the line moves quickly so don’t worry too much. The chairs were comfy. They gave us water and tea. To start we had home made roti canai (which was an Indian pancake) with curry chicken with potato dipping sauce. We also had miso soup. For our entrees we had green chicken curry and curried chicken with rice with onions. The curry has some spice but it’s so well made that the overall flavor counters the spice. The food was absolutely delicious! When I got the overall check I noticed that the prices were very nice as well. I can’t wait to come here again. The food portions are awesome. I will have lunch for two days most likely even after leaving totally stuffed!
We were there for lunch 2 days ago, chair, table, and floor felt very sticky. Cups (tea cups and cold water glass cups) were dirty; there were stains in and around the tea cups and the water cups seemed to have soap scrums. Also, it looks like the place is in the middle of a remodeling. Food was marginal, not like how it was.
We chose not to dine at the restaurant primarily due to concerns about cleanliness, which seemed quite poor. Despite requesting a small table twice from different servers, we were seated at a window table with high chairs. These window tables were not only too small for two people but also sticky and visibly unclean with food residues. Additionally, although there were several four-person tables available and some were occupied by pairs, our request to switch tables was ignored by the servers. Moreover, the service was disappointing; the staff did not welcome us or acknowledge our requests. Overall, the lack of cleanliness was the most concerning issue.
Definitely authentic flavors that I grew up enjoying!
Manage expectations. 1. Don’t go there hungry, it takes a long time to order. 2. Enjoy desserts and other dishes from other places in Chinatown; they will forget items on your order. 3. Bring a book; it takes awhile to be seen to get the check. It’d be a great takeout place, they should just lose the dine in service altogether. Maybe open a food truck or something.
