Gen Kai Japanese - Dana Point

Husband and I toured the coast from Santa Barbara to Dana Point. That was the best sushi we found! Excellent authentic sushi house. The restaurant was clean and had a large sushi bar to watch the cooks work. Very good!!!

I needed ten years. I've been going to Gen Kai for 10 years I'm not a sushi meal, but Gen Kai has many other great dishes and I never had a bad meal there and the food got hot at the table and the service is excellent.

I'm a long-term customer, but since Covid used the delivery and was looking forward to enjoying in-house restaurants. What a disappointing experience. At first they sat at the narrow corner of the sushi bar, although it was 5:45, so the sushi bar was half empty. Then I noticed that no edamame was offered even after the meal. The Sushi Church looked like unhappy office workers waiting for them to end. The server tried to remove my record before I finished, guess I wasn't eating fast enough? Place was still half empty, so maybe she tried to stay busy or maybe she was just a B. The food is still good, but maybe also take and skip the insults. I'm never going to deny this treatment again. I was looking for good food in a fun pleasant and friendly environment, like the pre-Covid days, but now I will look for a better culinary experience, where I didn't feel like an intruder.

My husband and my favorite Sushi restaurant. We had to stop going more than once a week. The Sushi Burrito, Dana Point Roll and the Hungry Tiger are our favorites.

This place is hopping. Lots of customers. Sushi is pretty decent. Prices are not too bad. Come early if you want first seating.
