Bidrage med feedbackMercado San Camilito is located on the north side of Plaza Garibaldi. It is basically a local food court with dozens of restaurants, most of them serving pozole. The food is good and cheap, with a great atmosphere. The Mercado Sana Camilito is a 5 minute metro ride, or a 15 minute walk from the Zocalo. Don't miss an opportunity to go to a great place off the regular tourist track.
A long hallway of food vendors! Every vendor will approach you and offer their specialty or will mention the entire menu as you walk by. Great place to grab a quick bite to eat before you continue exploring the enormous city.
This is a building of mostly restaurants in Garibaldi Plaza where it seems to specialize in lamb dishes. Tried it for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The difficult part was choosing a restaurant at which to eat. The whole place was spotless. Ate at Los Gordos. Had their lamb and lamb consumé. The tacos were very full of lamb. It was delicious and inexpensive. The owner, even with our language barrier, made us comfortable and explained their offerings. We would be happy to be able to eat there again.
Most restaurants in this market are touristy and more or less the same, except for this smaller joint at local 53. It offers more traditional and local food at a much cheaper price and hosts more Mexican guests, especially the mariachi musicians from the plaza. We enjoyed their Oxtail Mole (Olle de Cola de Res) and the famous stuffed pepper (Chili Rellano) On an evening with no power in that section, they had romantically candle lights.
This food market is just perfect, with many places to choose from although they all serve similar food. If you are looking for local food then this is the place you need to come to...specially when you compare to prices you are charged in the regular restaurants. We had 3 tacos al pastor with beers and cokes, molten cheese fir 3 people and we paid 360 WITH TIP. Will certainly come back here next time I come. You will love it
