Bidrage med feedbackI visited this restaurant for a stroll along the waterfront and through the wooded area, where it was cooler. The area was really beautiful, and since it was out of season, it was quite quiet. I can imagine it gets busy in the summer!
Not a very good welcome oh you been before so know your way. No a number of yes since we where here. I found this property cold dark. Tapestries on every wall showing there wealth but makes rooms very dark cold.
This restaurant is definitely worth a visit not only for the delicious food, but also for the interesting items in the house. One highlight is the Italian ebony walnut carved cabinet with secret cubbyholes. The volunteers are friendly and will show you the hidden containers inside if you ask nicely. A special shoutout to the female volunteer who shared her discovery of the cabinet with us, it made our day! It would be a fun idea to hide some small trinkets or surprises in the cubbyholes for future visitors to find. And by the way, the mushrooms on toast made for a delicious late lunch option.
Cotehele is a fantastic National Trust property. The house and gardens are fascinating, but what truly sets this property apart is the array of woodland walks and the stunning diverse landscapes it offers.
I’ll start with the positive which is we enjoyed the gardens and the house. This review isn’t really about the barn food. My partner had a pasty which was clearly reheated in the microwave which makes them very flaccid and the pastry soggy. I had what was described as loaded skins with cheese and bacon however what turned up clearly hadn’t been cooked today and had again been reheated in the microwave. The cheese was so hard you couldn’t apart from taste know it was cheese and it was very difficult to identify the bacon amongst it the potato had a greyish tinge to it. My in-laws had wedges with cheese and chives these again clearly have been reheated in the microwave but at least you could see the cheese was melted and it looked like cheese. The coffee was okay I had a hot chocolate and it was the large luxury however the milk in the chocolate was not very hot so it was more of a warm hot chocolate. Seems very disappointing as having an oven and cooking things in it doesn’t seem to be that difficult with the items that they had at least a warming area that kept things hot. Certainly wouldn’t eat there again
