Bidrage med feedbackI was recently in a restaurant, everything is very tasty, excellent service, good friendly atmosphere, a large selection of excellent Georgian wines. I recommend to everyone!!!
The downside of our visit that the place was almost full and so a bit noisy. I guess it counts as the proof that the restaurant is quite popular. The surprise was how they serve lobio (red beans) cold appetizer, I'll call it inventive. And meat kebabs were excellent, 5-star.
I visited Russia and Georgia a few years ago and fell in love with the delicious Georgian cuisine. Georgian cuisine is the perfect mix of Mediterranean, Eastern European, Middle Eastern and Central Asian cuisine. It felt familiar yet much better than any cuisine I had from those parts of the world. Coming back to Canada, I'm thankful that Suliko exists. It is just as good as the food I tried in Georgia and its service and prices are very reasonable. Lovely atmosphere and great packaging for takeout too!
Suliko restaurant used to be my favorite but now they sold their sole to the devil. I will not go there ever again!
We decided to try Suliko as something different. I have never eaten at an authentic Georgian/Russian restaurant but had read some good reviews about this. Upshot: I enjoyed the food (vegetarian dishes only) but the drinks and service were a bit lacking. The place is small so you have to make a reservation (we showed up a couple weeks before and were turned away). When I called, the woman on the phone answered first in Russian, then switched to English. She took my reservation efficiently if somewhat briskly. And the place itself is definitely frequented by locals judging from the Russian we could hear being spoken all around us. It was full too, albeit on a Saturday night. The good: Before we had even ordered they brought bread and a dish of pickled cabbage and beets with a variety of dipping sauces. For appetizers we both had borsch soup (served hot) very tasty, especially on a winter 's night. We also had eggplant roll, which is fried eggplant slices wrapped around walnuts, garlic, and herbs. It was served cold but I think would have been better hot. The main dishes were khinkali, a traditional dumpling that reminded me of stuffed pasta. We chose the one with cottage cheese, but you could also get potato or three kinds of meat. And finally there was the hachapuri, a thin pastry again with various fillings; we had cheese and spinach. The hachapuri was BIG and quite filling the size of a large deep dish pizza. Needless to say, we had leftovers. One disappointment with the menu was that there were no traditional Russian drinks. They just had the usual local beer brands and a bunch of vodka shots, but nothing interesting. No Georgian wines, no brandy, no honey spirits, nothing to reflect the Soul of Georgia as they advertise themselves. The service is where I felt the place was shaky. Although I arrived 20 minutes before my friend, they didn 't even offer me a drink until I flagged down the waitress. Once we were both ready to order, our waitress was very eager to get our entire order in at once, whereas we wanted to order a couple of dishes and see how our appetite was after that. And just as we were finishing up our meal, that was when our waitress decided to go on break, and no one else was covering for her so we sat there with a bunch of dirty dishes on the table. Net, the food we had was great, and I enjoyed the leftovers as well. But the sporadic service and the lack of any interesting Georgian drinks was a real turn off for me. I also didn 't like the fact they don 't take walk in traffic you have to PLAN to be there. If I was in the mood again for authentic Russian or Georgian, I think I 'd plan to try another new place before going back here.
