Good food, but slow service seems to be understated. Our main objection was the mosquitoes gathered in the outdoor area and energetically attacked people, changing table or leaving the restaurant. The waiter finally arrived with smoking coffee grounds that she was a little scared. I think the owners should invest in some UV electric cutting lamps and install them where the insects collect.
I went there twice in my stay in Tróia, and I can’t tell you I wasn’t disappointed. As a Portuguese and connoisseur of seafood I can tell you that the Razor Clams/Gambas Rice and the Seafood Rice were divine. Huge portion for 2, cooked “au...point” and only lacked on having too few gambas. I was truly impressed by the Galego Octopus; the best I haver had. The place is clean and welcoming and the service was good. Beware in the summer as there many mosquitos!
Great food. Popular with locals and visitors, so you might have to wait, but the drinks will be served to you while you are waiting. Flies is the only issue, but it does not spoil the experience on the whole. Flies are almost everywhere on...hot summer dats in Portugal! Good house white.
A Cegonha is a non-descript in decor restaurant located at the center of downtown Comporta village on the Alentejo coast at the bottom of Troia peninsula and 30km from the town of Alcácer do Sal. Comporta is a small village turned fashion by Lisbon wealthy...people who have been buying property at this tiny Alentejo village for the last 20 years. The town has not changed much keeping its small whitewashed Alentejo houses and from an outsiders look it is not much prettier than any ill developed beach town on the Alentejo coast. However opposite to the below average food restaurants you find on Alentejo coast Comporta harbors some of the best and most up-to-date restaurants on the Alentejo coast keeping the quality of local cuisine and dishes at its highest. We went with friends from Paris for dinner at Cegonha and had one of the best meals ever. Simple dishes, freshly cooked with the best raw materials there is. The octopus salad was divinely freshly prepared, a far step from the dull salads you find as appetizers in many other restaurants. The sardines grilled on charcoal and wrapped in sea salt were perfectly cooked and super fresh and the fried squid was also fried to perfection and very tender and tasty. For dessert we settled for the carob and fig cake, egg pudding Portuguese style (with almonds) and a walnut cake. The house white wine was very light and refreshing. The decor is nothing special and very casual which will make you feel right at home on your beach gear and no fancy dressing. I strongly recommend this place. Service is quiet good and since Comporta is in a way a cosmopolitan place, service is above standard compared to any other place in Alentejo Region. Thumbs up.
