Viva - Cluj-Napoca

Viva is a chain which operates cafeterias in OMV gas stations throughout Romania. The menu includes coffees and teas, soft drinks, and light snacks such as croissants, pastries and chocolates.The Viva on calea Floresti is one of the nicest. Clean, bright, furnished in a simple and modern style. They have a selection of teas including rooibos (which is known as "Relax"). To our slight surprise, we were greeted in perfect English (although we speak Romanian and we imagine that we are not obviously foreigners). Service was excellent. The big glass cups are a nice touch. Prices are very reasonable.Best of all - prominent signs read (in Romanian): In accordance with EU requirements, Viva is a non-smoking zone. If you wish to smoke, a terrace is available, or you can order "coffee to go". This in a country where non-smoking restaurants are like gold dust. The only catch (as explained to us by the waitress: in Romania, there is a practice called "smoke on your own account". In other words, if you smoke in a non-smoking area, the staff will not say anything. We were lucky - no-one smoked while we were there.
