Virginia - Clane

The food at this restaurant is excellent and generously portioned. The service is good, plates are served hot, and the staff is attentive and friendly. They also offer a great variety of drinks. Please see my other review for a more detailed experience at breakfast in the library, which was a different story.

We found the staff very pleasant and helpful. Perhaps not the most knowledgeable but young and eager to please. Wine list was very good. Some very good choices in my opinion. Not the most extensive wine list I've ever come across but some good well known wines are available. I was very happy with the wine list. I liked the decor. It's a very pleasant place to be. Well finished with good quality furnishings and proper cloth napkins. The food while good with some nice touches and generous portions, just lacked that something special. No complaints though. We enjoyed the meal.

Upon arriving in our car, the restaurant didn't seem promising from the outside next to a busy road. However, once inside, we found the ambiance to be fabulous and the food was absolutely magnificent!

For some reason it had been a very long time since I ate in the Virginia Restaurant and having noticed it had dropped way down the list in terms of its Tripadvisor ratings, I had assumed it must have gone downhill.... I was wrong. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. I had garlic mushrooms served with a lovely salad to start, steak served with mash, onion rings and a generous selection of veg for the main (there was a supplement on the steak as expected) and a massive apple cider crumble to finish. All in all it was excellent and I look forward to my next visit again soon.
