Bidrage med feedbackYou want authentic...this is the place for you! Not sure what you're craving but you want Mexican, this is the place for you! Plenty of seating, plenty of parking in their lot as well as street parking is what you encounter first as well as a crowd. Yes, it's that good so show up patience in case there's a short wait also make sure to wear your hungry pants. The cafeteria style display of food as well as aromas that will take you back to Abuela's kitchen, will have you ordering one of everything! Server's are glad to explain the different dishes to you so don't be afraid to ask. One added nicety is you don't have to order a plate of just one item ! That's right, the plates, which come with rice and beans, can be ordered with variety. As an example you can have a plate with Guisado de Res stewed savory beef and Pollo con Mole chicken with Mole sauce accompanied by either corn or flour tortillas. There's also a menu that you can order from as well. Weekends you can order Menudo but there's soup chicken, Fideo my personal Fav and beef. Prices are reasonable so this is a definite must try when in Chicago ! You're going to need a nice long walk after your meal so definitely check out their grocery store located next to their parking lot! Lots of goodies, meats, produce and great prices. I could spend an hour there alone just checking out all tge different spices, foods delicacies...a definite must for foodies !
Absolutely delicious, authentic Mexican food! My only complaint is that the bathrooms SHOULD be remodeled!
Food: 100! Serice: 5 Atmosphere: 5 no frills) Value: 5 Bathroom: Zero For 20+ years I heard about La Casa del Pueblo and its neighboring restaurant Nuevo Leon now extinct due fire). My friends from Mexico, Asia and Europe wouldn't stop talking about this place so one day I decided to give it a try and I was instantly converted !!! La Casa del Pueblo offers the most authentic Mexican home made style food anywhere on this side of the border Real abuelita and Tia style), I know so, I used to live in El Paso Tx, Arizona; L.A. and Oakland in California. Variety is unbelievable too. Probably 50 freshly cooked dishes daily. They have their base every day menu with the most popular items of the Mexican comfort food cuisine beans, rice, chicken soup, beef stew, menudo etc etc etc) then thier specials that rotate by the day Mole, frijoles charros, fish, pancita, haba soup etc) and then the seasonal menu for Lent or summer or Navidad !! Only a place with tons of volume and expertise can offered such a Fresh and Delicious variety of items to select from. I can't get enough of them !!! Service is another delightful experience at this place. Many attentive older ladies are prompt to handle your requests, happily and with old style gratitude you don't find anymore. Really really great place. Extremely recommended for casual eating while alone, group of workers or family gathering. I wish they put more attention to the restrooms. As amazing as this place is, the owner is kinda a jerk. I've seen how he treats employees, hum...
Best tamales in Chicago I've had tamales all over and there's nothing compared to Casa de Pueblo
Cafetería style restaurant. I come here very early for breakfast (so I can't speak for the rest of the day). I get delicious food in a very welcoming, hospitable atmosphere. They're open by 6am and you get the friendliest sweetest waitstaff taking care of you. Sometimes when you come real early it takes a minute to get your food because they're just making it and putting it out. But it's worth the wait. These ladies make my day. They have the best attitude, they pay attention to detail, and they remember you. Coffee was very good today. Their chilaquiles are always excellent. Their mole, huevos con papa, barbacoa, and tamales are great. They take credit cards (but there is an extra fee).
