Bidrage med feedbackDuring our visit to Shipston for a week, my husband, daughter, and I made this restaurant our second home. The building was charming and traditional, with a cozy bar perfect for dogs, kids, and lively conversations over a great selection of ales and lagers. We especially enjoyed the corner sofa for playing cards, and can imagine how lovely it must be with the fire lit in winter. However, the highlight for us was the beautiful garden with a natural wigwam tree and children's play area, offering a scenic view of the rolling hills. While they do not typically serve food, we were delighted by the wood-fired pizza oven that visits once a month, as well as the occasional local fish and chips night. We also had the chance to experience "sharing night," where locals bring in cheese and homemade bread to enjoy at the bar. With fantastic staff, a picturesque garden, and a cozy atmosphere, this pub left a lasting impression on us and we look forward to returning in the future.
Proper boozer with delicious simple food hot Sausage Rolls Pasties . Cold pies , Scotch Eggs , Lovely locals . Rare to find
We were staying in a cottage in the Village of Lower Brailes and decided we could not be bothered to cook on Tuesday evening so as per recommendation s in the folder we rang through our order. We were given a time when they would be ready and two of the party walked down 3, minutes to the pub. The food wash ready on time even though they were very busy in both bars with people eating in. The fish and chips were well wrapped and still pipping hot when we got back they were delicious. Would recommend going there to eat as it looked a really interesting and cosy place. With a good menu to choose from.
Myself and my wife with our dog's stayed hear for two nights. The landlord and lady were very friendly and welcoming. The pub itself was very traditional and the locals very friendly. We ate there both nights and the food was excellent. The accommodation was comphtetble. They also have a large garden for the dogs to run around in. Will definitely go back.
We returned on Tuesday for delicious fish and chips, made with fresh fish delivered from Grimsby, in the lovely garden at the back of the pub. We were lucky to be there during the first week of the month, as every first Wednesday a wood-fired pizza van sets up in the backyard and draws a crowd of locals who come to eat or take home pizza. The pizzas were fantastic and the atmosphere was lively as people sipped drinks and chatted while waiting for their orders. We missed out on the 'hot chicks' BBQ chicken special on Thursday due to a prior commitment, but we would have loved to try it! In addition to the nightly specials, there is a full menu available and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals. We highly recommend The Gate, where dogs are welcome in the bar area where you can also dine.
