Chez Manu Cafe - Chapala

That was an art event. that was okay. we'll go back. they love the courtyard

It is a very sweet, welcoming place, well maintained, friendly and well furnished; especially clean. we ordered sandwiches after reading the great reviews on travel advisors. may not be in line with the reviews. we had two different sandwiches, each tasting equal to the other. The...cheese and chorrizo sandwich had each seasoned a thin disc with Alfalfa sprouts and others stacked above. it was served with stale kartoffel chips on a non-descripting bungalow. we are not going back. not a good value for the money. Maybe it's a good place to have a cup of coffee, but forget the sandwiches.

Chez manu has become a place where our hearts live. the ambiente is great, eating very well with exceptional daily suppens specialties service is great the only real garden in chapala that warm and care that goes into this. facility like no other, the owner manu really tries to make them feel home. I can't recommend it enough.

The coffee shop is more than just coffee or Danish. It serves sandwiches as well as specialty coffees and teas. The sandwiches are large (more than I could eat at one sitting and the place serves frappes the way I like them. It has great...home brewed iced tea and the owner, Manu Salazar, made me a sandwich that was not on the menu but was something he came up with for a guy who wasn 't eating meat--a salmon filet sandwich. The sandwiches were served with a kosher dill pickle--hard to find in this area--and chips made by hand by his neighbor. The waiter spoke English as well as Spanish and Manu himself speaks Spanish, English and French. The ambiance of the place is colorful and has outdoor seating under an awning, seating on a porch enclosed with screens to protect from the bugs--both areas look into a well cared for delightful garden--and the inner air conditioned room that has board games to play and beautiful 18th, 19th and 20th century Russian, French and Mexican art--including antique Russian icons (in Chapala, Mexico!! . Ask Manu for a tour through the art. If you can get into it the area behind the coffee house has even more art. There is live music once a week. The place has large windows for walls in the inner room and the fireplace looks like it was used this past winter. It is a good place to meet Mexican, American, Canadian and European guests if you sit there long enough. There are papers and magazines in English and Spanish for anyone to look through while they are there. The place has a French theme and that includes the menu with the names of the sandwiches but, thankfully, all sandwiches have their ingredients listed in Spanish and English. He does have some desserts but you have to ask about them. They are not on the menu. Ask for Manu personally if you go there. He is a wealth of information not just on Chapala but on Guadalajara and its restaurants. He lived in Guadalajara for many years. The place is friendly. Manu says that his motto is; Come as a guest and leave as a friend. That 's certainly true.

I don't like salmon. but when we came for the show of an artist, the dinner was laugh and pasta and I love it! I came back to lunch two days later. I ordered chilaquiles I never had before. they explained what was in it, and I enjoyed it very much. we will return for more specials as they should.
