Auberge de la Fontaine - Chaniers

Restaurant very accommodating spoke little English almost zero. But sign language speaks for itself. Very recommended food and welcoming feeling excellent. My wife and I have two big dogs and we were also greeted with them. Menu limited, but what was very... good.

The new owner is a very creative cook that cooks with passion. She makes everything from scratch and it's all very delicious. We were four friends and we all loved our meal. Don't be distracted by the location that is on the main road. You won't hear anything inside. They plan to open a terrace on the back of the restaurant.

On the side of a road we sat outside. The menu seemed quite extensive, which was a nice surprise, but we ordered the fixed price menu that seemed to be good to appreciate. Two hours later, we had just finished the second course and were... from the time for the dessert. As with many restaurants around this part of France, there seemed to be too few staff either waiting or in the kitchen. 2 hours for 2 courses is too long.

Stopped here by chance on our way from Cognac to the Ile de Rea. The service was really good, greeted with smiles and taken straight to a table of our choice, insode or outside (with the baby we opted for inside as the temperature was...preferable). I had the Lamb, excuisite with the honey and duck jus. My partner had the duck. We were really surprised at the quality of the food here especially after eating in plenty of decent restaurants in Cognac which were not to the same standard. Would love to return.

A small restaurant with a great menu, great staff and very good prices, especially lunches. Look out for the daily specials.
